I consider worship as bowing our hearts to someone or something.I think atheists worship self, their own intelligence perhaps. Is this what the Bible terms as self-righteousness?

Worship of self! No doubt. The best definition of self-righteousness would be pride.Too proud to acknowledge their folly. They talk about cloning but still have to start from what God made first! They talk about evolution-evolution from what? They talk about the big bang theory but where did the first bang come from? Too proud to accept their ignorance.Despite 1000s of evidence on life after death & doctors attesting to it,miraculous healings happening around the globe in the name of Jesus. They dont even want to go deep in & research on it knowing that they will be convinced of the existence of God.Most of them dont dare to read the Bible!Look at their answers.Filled with arrogance & hate & some even cuss.It all stems out of pride & rebellion against the maker-God all powerful. And we all know where pride leads a person! Oh! may their eyes be opened before it is too late.

Atheists don't 'worship' anyone or anything. They believe that 'science' tells us 'the truth' and that there is not nor could ever be a 'god' ... yes, some atheists seem to be 'self righteous' but so do some religious people because of their beliefs ... why don't you give EVERYONE a break and try to think up some more intelligent questions, because I've answered this one. I am, by the way, a Catholic Christian ... but I have many atheist and agnostic friends, and I have talked to them about this idea of 'worship' you seem to think that everyone 'does' automatically. Worship is NOT 'automatic' ... it comes with 'faith' and the belief in a supreme being/creator.

Atheists don't worship any deity. Look at the root of the word:
A- (no), theism (belief in the existence of a god or gods).

Atheists don't worship themselves. Why do you feel compelled to insult someone when you don't understand them? Does the Bible say, "Go out and insult those who disagree-eth with you!"? No, it commands to you to love others.

As for what the Bible calls righteous:
Proverbs 24:16 "The righteous fall even seven times and still gets up, but the wicked stumble in evil." (The difference between righteous people and wicked people is that righteous people get up and try to improve, whereas evil people do not.)

Eccl. 7:20 "There is no person on earth so righteous that he does only good and never sins." (This clearly says that there are righteous people. The difference is that you do not have to be "perfect" or "never sin" to be righteous.)

Atheists do not worship God or any other deity. If they do, they are not an Atheist. Some Atheists can worship money ect. just as all people can but not worship in it's traditional sense.
Are you referring to humanism, by asking about intelligence? It's presumed that Atheists are humanists but this is not necessarily correct either.(A great teacher of mine was the most humble and non-humanist lady ever!) It's as silly as the stereotype of Christians all being self-righteous. I prefer not to categorize all people of certain beliefs. I am not self-righteous and I am a Christian. I am not promoting atheism or acceptance of all beliefs I'm just stating the facts, people's individual beliefs and personal philosophies vary widely.

You don't see atheists going door to door and burning people, hanging people, and shooting people because you don't believe in what they do. I'm not saying that believing in a higher being isn't fulfilling because i know a lot of good people that are great christians but i know a lot more who are very self righteous i was raised catholic so i would know a thing or 2 about that. Take a look at the middle east that religious war over there has taken place for a long time and will not end anytime soon. I think its different for all atheists. i have faith but its in my family friends and myself. in the end the only real person you can count on is yourself. At least christians have hope and thats a beautiful thing man.

what do atheists woship? Its simple,,,nothing, they don't even believe in a higher power or worship themselves. I think they jsut believe that life is random, a very nihilistic approach and in the end you die...the end. Or maybe it is to get rich, married etc the stereotyped 'goals' of life. And is this self-righteousness? definitely no... Without acknowledgment and an relationship with God how can you even get righteousness?

Not necessarily...Self righteous means someone thinks they know more about God and are living more for him, than you do...they are proud of their knowledge and their position in the church....they may not have a relationship with Jesus at all.....just follow the rules and worry more about the letter of the law than knowing God...they look good on the outside but inside thy are empty....

But if you remove the word God....you will find that this is a lot the way some atheists think of themselves....arrogant and full of themselves.

Atheists worship living. Whereas theists worship after-living, or death or heaven, or whatever you want to call it. Since all we have is the present, we try to do as much as we can with that. It takes a true leap of faith to be able to accept life as temporal. Believing in a magical afterlife is easy.

Nothing. Is that such a hard concept to not feel that we have to throw ourselves on the ground and grovel at the feet of something? Do you feel like a better person by doing that and praying that big God creature does not squash you? Makes you wonder why theists want to constantly live in fear of making some being angry that they have never met, never seen, nor is there any empirical evidence nor logical argument to support some supreme being.

Of course you think 'we' worship ourselves. Because you can't see out of your worshipful bubble.

I don't worship myself, or the moon, sun, or collectivism, politics, science or any deity I don't have evidence for.

Can't you fathom that? Must your misunderstanding naturally fall to insulting me, calling me vain, or arrogant?

I am only labeled an atheist because of my honesty. Honesty is *not* arrogance. I am honest enough to recognize that:

1. I have no evidence for deities of any kind, hence I don't believe them. Hence I don't worship them.

and

2. I don't know how or if our universe began.

If you call my self-effacing honesty 'self-righteous', then what do you call someone who believes that the Earth was made FOR them by a perfect being who made Them in it's image, and also believe that they are Keepers of the Only Truth??

I cannot even grasp the kind of enormous ego that one would require to keep that kind of self-righteousness and self-reverence afloat...

As for 'bowing my heart': I do it every second to Nature. The Whole is infinitely more than my insignificant speck of a sum.

I have utmost regard and respect for all other living things, (my brothers and sisters), and the mysteries and unknowable vastness of the cosmos. I do not believe it was made for me by someone who made me in their image. I cannot imagine anything so crass..
