everyone's saying "it's weight class not height class". i think this guys knows that. =P i think what he's getting at is what weight is best for his height range regardless of what his actual weight is. (he's not asking what boxing weight class he is himself, i'm sure he's found that out already =P. )

anyway. for a 5ft 5.5 guy, i'd have to say probably lightweight is best.

(maybe even feather/super featherweight, but i'll stick with lighweight.)

(read on if you want :).) reason being that if you head into say, welterweight you'll probably run into 5ft 8-10+ guys which is a significant height difference in terms of reach. also if he was 5ft 6 say, being in welterweight+ wouldn't be practical as his muscle mass : height ratio will probably make him less agile, mobile etc. that's my opinion anyway.

Probably featherweight (126 lbs). But then again, the type of physique that you have as well as your body's maturation would have a lot to do with the weight class you'd fight in. For instance, Manny Pacquiao is around 5'5" - 5'6". He started out as a flyweight (112 lbs.), but his body had matured quickly that he's now fighting as a superfeatherweight (130 lbs.) and even planning to move up to lightweight (135 lbs.) after having difficulty making 130 during the last Barrera fight.

It doesn't really matter. It all about what weight you are comfortable with. Though to help answer your question somewhat, a lot of fighters of your height fight at lightweight (135) or smaller.

It doesn't make a difference how tall you are. That's why it's called weight class. You have to figure out how much you weigh, than you will be on the right path.
