This is actually really embarrassing but I suffer from Paruresis (“Shy Bladder Syndrome”) and soon I will be court ordered to serve time in jail.

I’m freaking out because what if I get stuck with a Cellmate? I will end up with a bladder infection or something serious because of my condition – I WONT be able to go!!

If I tell them on the form or whatever that I suffer from this do I have any rights, or will they just laugh at me and say “yeah right”? I’m praying I get my own cell. I just wanted to know how my condition stands when it requires special treatment in my type of scenario (the law). What are my options?

Serious answers only please!!

Wow, some of you people can really be pricks w/your answers. Thanks for some of those immature, useless responses - Way to earn those points with all your "knowledge"... or lack there of?

Anyhow, to the people giving me some legitimate insight - It won't be prison time it's just a few months in the County lock-up for disorderly.

Thanks,

If your concerned about privacy, your better off going to prison, where you typically have one room mate. In the typical jails you live in a dorm type setting with approx. 10-25 other inmates and usually 1 large shower and 2-3 toilets, right next to each other. I'm not trying to scare you, just trying to tell it like it is. When you first get booked into the jail, you will be seen by a nurse, if the jail is large enough, and you have medical paperwork identifying your condition, you might, just might be able to swing a room in the medical unit or protective custody dorms, where you usually have the room to yourself.

I feel sorry about your situation, but I hate to tell you that your medical condition won't be taking into consideration. Once in jail you don't know what's going to happen. CO and wardens can care less what happens to you. You have no rights in prison. I really hope someone makes an exception and helps you.
Good luck !!!!

you would have to find a doctor that would say your medically unfit to be in jail with a roommate. It probably will be very hard with a condition like paruresis, so get a good lawyer too.

So tell us how it went in jail? I'm assuming you survived with your shy bladder in jail?

if you exhibit signs of a bladder infection, the prison doc will rig you with a Foley catheter.

Let them know of the condition during in-processing. Its the most you can do.
