It's better for gays and lesbians to be honest with themselves and to those that love them. It's unfortunate that LGBT people need to hide a part of themselves because of pressures of society, religion and family. I agree that there would be less hurt people if they were open and honest to themselves and others to begin with. Now the wives and children have to deal with the fall out from all of this. Thanks for posting this question, it's very sincere and this issue needs to be addressed more, because a lot of GLBT people have been hurt and betrayed by religious people.

I'd say it's better for people to live as they were created... not a lie. But with self control. Meaning, even though I may have a natural desire to be with many women, I must exhibit self control if I have decided to be married to one woman. Is that living a lie? I'd say no. I'm still myself. So I would say it actually takes a strong person to live a life that adheres to societal standards, especially if that is not your norm.
And my life is more joyful because I maintain self control and keep my natural instincts in check.
As for religion, for me it's not about forcing others to conform as much as simply showing others that they can achieve more through love and obedience.
Be blessed!!

This is such a sore topic...I know someone who is very Christian, and also just came out to me. He's so afraid of telling his family or pretty much anyone in his life, because he knows they will hate him for what he is (and its true, I know his family...). He told me he will never act on his feelings. He'll either "be cured" or stay single forever. I think that is so freaking sad. What a depressing life that would be! I feel so sorry for him...he doesn't fit in anywhere anymore. He's not straight, but he's not a practicing gay person either. For his sake, I hope it can be "cured", but I know it can't. I mean, its been proven that it never goes away. It can be repressed, but never gone. And that's a sad life too. So, I guess I have no answer, just my little anecdote. Take from it what you want.

They should live and find happiness as they are just like everyone else in this world of ours.
The one with the 'bun in the oven' should give some thought to Glass Houses and 'casting the first stone'. Having said that, being gay is no more a sin than 'having sex for fun' rather than procreation.

Although this is interesting, I somehow feel I have no answers. I don't expect people to think or believe everything the way I do. Looking at many people, some have different ways of putting their lives together. I hope they can find the right way.

Why should we as gay people try to live our lives as heterosexuals when God did not create us that way? It's unnatural for us. Trying to live the heterosexual lifestyle when it's not natural for a person only leads to broken promises, broken hearts and broken lives. It's bad for society and individuals and my heart goes out to those who have bought into the lie that they MUST be heterosexual at all costs. I pray that they find wholeness as the gay beings which God created them and intended them to be.

Who was hurt by Larry Craig? No one but his poor family. That guy has been railroaded and he should stand his ground. Give me a break, Clinton did 100 times worse and nothing happened to him.

You're forgetting that apparently *cough* homosexuality is a choice *cough*.
Loyal B: The gay community shoves their belief down someone's throat?
Really?
Who did ever approach you and TELL you, ORDER you to go and have sex with another male? Anyone? No?
Guess what, christians approach gay people all the time and tell them to stop having sex with their chosen partners.
Who's doing the shoving now?

People should indeed live as they are and not pretend otherwise. Being gay is completely legal yet it carries a higher stigma than being a thief or a mugger.
People need to follow their own religions and allow others the same freedom.

The Gods create all kinds of people.
And unlike the Christian God(s), MY Gods want their people to be happy.
All their people.
Yet another reason Asatru trumps Christianity... EVERY time.
