Other treats that can be fed to your gerbil include:

Biscuits
Boiled Potatoes
Bread (fresh or stale)
Breakfast Cereals (low fat)
Cheese (small amounts occasionally as fattening)
Currents
Dog Biscuits
Egg (scrambled or boiled)
Mealworms
Raisins
Sultanas
Toast

Never feed a gerbil any of the following:

Chocolate
Garlic*
Onions
Rabbit Mix (containing antibiotic ingredients)
Raw Kidney Beans
Sweets
Toffee

*There is much evidence to suggest that garlic can be beneficial to health but there is also some evidence to suggest that an overdose of garlic could be harmful. Therefore although it may not be strictly dangerous to feed to gerbil its effects on gerbils is not completely known.

Fruit and vegetables that are safe to feed a gerbil are:

Apple (seedless)
Broccoli
Carrots
Cauliflower leaves and stalks
Cucumber
Lettuce - small amounts occasionally - in excess it can cause liver problems
Parsley - a good tonic

Right on! Cheerios is the best thing you can feed them if out of the gerbil food! Veggies too! But nothing sweet, they are VERY sensitive to sugar.

Most birdfood is safe. I give my gerbils some when I need more food. There is always fresh fruits and veggies (apples, lettuce, carrots, etc.). I will sometimes give them peanut butter. They love it.

They eat seeds and grains. They can eat cheerios and bread and crackers and any kind of grain product in a pinch. Carrots are fine, but they are not its main food source. If you throw in some nuts or even birdseed, that's fine too. Dry oatmeal is good. They can also eat dry dog food and dry cat food temporarily.
