The first time I've ever visited China, I went to live with relatives in Fujian province in 2002. I was amazed that the traffic lights do not work at all. One of my friends was run over and died when she stepped onto the curb.

How can a powerhouse like China neglect the safety of it's people by not ensuring the traffic lights are operational? I don't know who to contact to have them repaired, considering tourists may be visiting during the 2008 Olympics. The local government is to blame I would say.

They drive on the right side, like most of the countries in the world. However, some places have a lane, like a bike lane on the side of the street or road, sometimes it is just a painted line and sometimes it is a curb. In this lane bike and motor scooters and motorized trikes go both ways. If you are not careful and look both ways when crossing you will be blind sided.
