I have been told that the reason there are problems in the world is because god gave us free will. This apparently opened the door to all kinds of evils, and allowed people to be deceived by satan. However, that does not explain natural disasters. No matter what choices I make in life, I cannot cause a tsunami, a hurricane, or a tornado.

You're creating a false premise... Natural disaster's aren't evil... To humans they are disasters, to the earth they are routine mainenance...

Only humans can be evil... nature and and animals don't have free will and therefore cannot choose to be evil... nature and animals just exist and do their thing... occasionaly we get in the way and get hurt... that doesn't mean they are evil... they were just doing what they're supposed to do...

If you drown in the ocean does that make the ocean evil? No, it was just water being water... you just got in its way...

Is God cause of disasters?
God is not causing the earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, droughts, and volcanic eruptions that are so often in today’s news. He is not using these to bring punishment on certain peoples. To a large extent, these are caused by natural forces that have been operating since the earth’s creation. The Bible foretold great earthquakes and food shortages for our day, but that does not mean that either God or Jesus is responsible for them, any more that a meteorologist is responsible for the weather that he forecasts. Because these are occurring along with all the other things foretold in the composite sign of the conclusion of this system of things, they are part of the evidence that the blessings of God’s Kingdom are near.-Luke 21: 11, 31.

Humans often bear heavy responsibility for harm done. In what way? Even when given ample warning, many people refuse to get out of the danger area or fail to take needed precautions.-Proverbs 22:3; compare Matthew 24:37-39.

God can control such natural forces. He empowered Jesus Christ to calm a storm on the Sea of Galilee, as an example of what He will do for mankind under His Messianic Kingdom. (Mark 4:37-41) By turning his back on God, Adam rejected such divine intervention on behalf of himself and his offspring. Those who are granted life during Christ Messianic Reign will experience such loving care, the kind of care that only a government empowered by God can give.-Isaiah 11:9.

Why does everyone think that God is the cause of natural disasters? Do you think god sits there and makes these things happen? If so thats pretty cruel.

God made nature, and nature makes hurricanes, tsunamis etc, not God.

"Free will" is NOT the cause of all evil. St. Augustine believed that free will was a creation of God to make the pursuit of truth, the ultimate happiness, possible, and because the pursuit of truth is good, the vehicle by which it is realized is necessarily good. If you're interested in this topic, read St. Augustine's On Free Choice of the Will. Fascinating and thought-provoking.

Through the eyes of a Christian, everything evil can explained by either Satan, Original Sin or free will.

It's a bit a crazy, although, I think only a few Christians think this way.

Natural disasters are naturally occurring. But it's Satan that tricks non-believers into buying trailer-homes in Kansas.

Read Job chapters 36-42 of the Bible.
Another reference is where Jesus was on the boat with the disciples and a storm came. They thought they would drown and woke up the Lord. He commanded the winds and the waves to calm and they did. God wants us to be repentent and to call on Him as a people when things like this begin. Not to sit back in our sins, and watch the destruction take place.

Natural Disasters are caused by "The Gay", "Atheism", and Democrats. All you have to do is ask a fundamentalist Christian and they'll gladly tell you that.
