The best quality guitar you can get for a good price are Fenders. I recommend the Fender Stratocaster (squier) I have one and it works very well and doesn't go out of tune much. And it only costed $130!!!!

You can get an inexpensive Fender-type guitar made by Squier, starting at $99. Cheapies are sold in superstores like Target, Costco, and Best Buy. You get higher end models and brands at regular music stores like Guitar Center.

You can get a copy of the famous Gibson Les Paul made by Epiphone for around $149. Washburn also makes a nice entry level guitar.

Ok. If you're going to play electric you wil need an amplifier as well. Here in the UK my local music shop does apackage deal on guitars like the Fender Squier ( my daughter got one), or one by Peavey that include a practice amp. go and look in your local music shop at what's available in your price range. Second hand(used) is always worth considering. If you have a friend who plays, take him/her with you to check out anything you like the look of. Hope this helps.

I dont know that much about guitars but i would think looking on http://www.musiciansfriend.com for a $200 electric guitar & looking at the reviews would be the best. I think they have a thing where you can set the price limit and then see what the one with the most buys for the cost is.
