some christians, i.e. creationists, are quick to point out what they feel is an obvious flaw in the theory of evolution. that being: if we came from monkeys, why are there still monkeys? indeed this is puzzling, if we did indeed come from monkeys, that is (which we didn't). however, as it stands, creationist logic dictates nothing can come from something that still exists, i.e. monkeys shouldn't exist because we exist. therefore, since monkeys and humans coexist, it's absurd to think that we came from monkeys. now, take the creationist claim that we came from god. well, if that's the case, by creationist logic god can't exist, since we in fact do exist. he might have existed at one time, but his existence is no more. so my question to creationists is, if we came from god, why do you believe god still exists?

First off its apes, not monkeys.
Secondly, the whole thing is a misconception... they don't understand evolution on even the most basic level, therefore cannot draw any rational conclusions from it.

ERMM there is so much wrong with your conclusions and your suppositions I do not know where to begin.
Granted the argument of if we came from monkeys... etc. etc. is flawed because it shows the misunderstanding that "sharing a common ancestor" is the same as one being, albeit in a long, long extention, the progeny of the other.
So, even though I am a creationist does not mean that I think that I am arguing against "we come from monkeys".
Now to tackle another portion of your "Q". Creationist do not make the claim that we came from God. Creationist make the claim that God made us. Now the correct correlation would be that we were made by monkeys. Which I know even an evolutionist wouldn't say that. So you have not made a logical correlation. Saying we come from and are made by are clearly two different things.
Okay! (Brushes hands in a finished with that motion.)
Now... for the third error in your tiny little treatise. Ahh never mind I'm sure someone else will catch the rest. My answer is getting too long anyway.

Creationist logic does NOT lead to the absurd conclusion you try to impose upon it. The Bible claims that God created 'something' out of 'nothing' - not out of himself. The Bible is full of examples of something coming from a pre-existing something else - babies from their mothers womb, for example. Does the birth of the baby mean the mother no longer exists? Does the creation of Adam and Eve BY God mean the Creator no longer exists? You say, 'If we came from God...' but the Bible says we came from the elements of the earth. Go and do a bit of half-serious theology before you post questions on God, please.
p.s. the monkey idea isn't how you put it either. The argument is that if we evolved from monkeys (which creationists know we didn't - and you agree we didn't!) then why don't we find any TRANSITIONAL stages between apes and homo sapiens? Where is there any evidence for progressive change and why are no such half and half creatures to be found in recorded human history?

That a very well put question. The only flaw here is that you are mixing two completely different theories and making it seem as if the two con-inside with creationist logic. They don't. only the creationist theory does. Other than that you have a great point.

Does this still qualify for a drinking question, even though you didn't actually ask why there are still monkeys?
Well, just to be safe... *drink*
Anyway, to answer your question, creationists do not believe we "came from" God, as in "evolved" from God, but that we were created by Him.
Nice try though.

Aesity means self-existence. Aesity explains the metaphysical nature of God as a purely self-existent being that exists in complete actuality. God is not a being that is created by another god; neither does God create himself into existence. Rather, God has always existed as an unchanging, completely actualized being.
God has his Being of himself and to himself such that he is Absolute being and the definition of existence.
Since God’s essence is his nature and God’s existence is the same as his essence it follows that God is existence.

That is so funny rant. Evolution theory is a theory. We did not come "from God", we came from dust ; ) And you know that dust is here forever!
