How long after the sore on the lip is gone (or dead with just the cut remaining) is it still contageous?

2 week is usually the healing time on a cold sore its contageous untill its scabed over with no cuts or open wounds( oosing). You can speed up healing with certian products like abreva also not touching it and keeping it moist helps. Hoped this helped.

The cold sore is still contagious until it is completely gone, if its a scab it still has the infection there wait till its totally gone and all you've got is skin.

the virus is still there until the whole thing has cleared up.it also depends whether you intend to kiss somebody,not all people carry the virus.i used to get them all the time and when ever i kissed my boyfriend he never caught it off me.that's because he doesn't carry the virus.

Always. the herpes virus that causes coldsores lives in your spittle.
You can give coldsores just by having the virus even tho you don't have a coldsore at the time.

It needs to have completely disappeared and the skin totally healed.

Trust me, I have one at the moment and am mightily pee'd off with it!!!
