Some are. Depends on what the psychosis is and the "severe mental disorders". (More than one???) There's always a chance that you could develop the same condition or conditions. The question is will you. I can't answer that.

Disorders no. Psychoses yes.
Many are still being learned about so the data is only what is known today and this can all change next week.
There are many factors on disorders environment, such as narcissism when a child did not get the healthy love mirrored by the parents who them self where not whole.
Or take a delusional person who is not seeing what is real and not.
Or grandiose thinking he or she is more than what they are.
What matters and is now every thing is being used as an excuse instead of looking at ones self and dealing with it.
DO you see the Holocaust saviors going around and doing the evil? No so we are each responsible for what we think , say and do.

while there is little physical proof of this hypothesis, simply because we do not know the physical dna markers for mental illness, a huge proportion of evidence points to the probability that mental illness does have a genetic component. However, you are NOT your father, and you are by no means DOOMED to suffer his problems, especially if you are aware of the early signs and symptoms and take steps to control them.

yes, they are definitely hereditary. make sure you talk to your doctor if you think you are developing anything, because the sooner you get it diagnosed and medicated the better. mental illnesses that are not taken care of as soon as possible can get pretty severe. make sure you have a doctor you trust so that if you have a problem they can help you.

Yes they can be.....but you can have mental disorders in your family....and you'll be fine....or you may have a mental disorder and no one else in your family does.

I think they are.
My Grandma has OCD
so does my dad.
I have very little OCD.
My dad has an anxiety problem.
I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
So, yes it has something to do with genetics.
