Ancient Egyptian "date Candy"

Figs, dates, pomegranates and grapes were the only fruits that could be grown in the hot climate. This recipe was from 1600BC and was found on an ostraca. NOTE There are no times given but I'm thinking it would go pretty quickly with the food processor.

Ancient Egyptian "date Candy"

1 cup of fresh dates
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cardamom seeds
1/2 cup of fresh ground walnuts
warm honey
fine ground almonds

mix the dates with some water to paste.
mix in cinnamon and kardemon seeds.
kneed in the walnuts.
form balls, spread with honey and cover in the ground almonds.

In a kids book about ancient egypt, there was a recipe for honey or cinnamon scrolls, but i can't find the recipe. Believe it or not the Egyptians invented marshmallows.

This is what I found when I went to Google.com and typed in Ancient Egyptian recipes:

EGYPTIAN RECIPE:
There is little evidence to draw upon regarding Ancient Egyptian recipes, as it would appear that they did not consider it necessary to write them down. Scholars tend to rely on paintings that show feasting and celebratory scenes, such as those found in tombs.

Although the ancient people did not appear to use cookbooks, the ingredients needed to make most of the dishes are well known, many of which are still used in Egypt today.

For example Ful Medames is the national dish of Egypt and probably dates as far back as the Pharaonic periods. It would have commonly been eaten with bread, lentils, raw vegetables and eggs. Tiger Nut Sweets is one of the oldest recipes known and was actually found written on ostraca. ( Piece of clay with writing on it) And Hummus is as popular in Egypt today as it probably was thousands of years ago.

TIGER NUT SWEETS

200g of fresh dates are blended with a little water. Then add a little cinnamon and chopped walnuts to taste. Shape into balls, coat in honey, ground almonds and serve.

Let's see if you can research what simple grains they used back then (and are still around today) and then add them to honey (which was probably the main or only source of sweetening agent back then) to create a simple cake or cookie. Also, see what native fruits of Egypt could be used as well.

Well you could just try some Dates with honey and maybe bake them in a dish with some nuts and spices but that is just about the only thing that i can think of.

This sounds like a geography question: Most "deserts" of Egypt, Ancient or modern, are made of "sand"
