.243 has rounds available for varmints look for the 55 grain loads (a frangible bullet so don't use for deer) and the gun can also be used for whitetails with the 100 grain loads, sort of a multi-use gun and bullet....look for a savage out of your wal-mart, or go with a H&R handi-rifle (break action single shot), and you can factory order different caliber barrels for the same gun.. buy that way and you can spend some money on a good scope......

A .243 is great for coyote. It is actually a little big for coyote, but if you are trying to kill a coyote, then injuring them with a bigger gun isn't a big deal. The .243 has taken plenty of deer in its day, but it is a smaller deer rifle.

A 22-250 is a good gun as well. It is about good for coyotes, but if we are talking perfection, the bullet could be a little larger.

The .223 is even smaller. It is fine, but I would try not to go any smaller than that. If you get much smaller, then you start injuring the coyotes more than killing them.

So the .243 is on the big side of perfect for a coyote.

Any Remington or Savage Rifle in 243 caliber..Many Varmint bullet styles to choose from, even more if you reload yourself.
The perfect long range "Reach Out and Touch Something (Varmint) Caliber." (Great for Whitetails too.......)

NOTE* If you have to squeeze a Rifle PLUS Scope in on your $600 budget, you should look at a Savage Rifle/Scope Combo in 243 caliber

Take your pick from these > 22-250, 218 Bee, 22 Hornet, 222.* I prefer the 22-250 myself, however the others are great too.*

My vote goes to the 25-06 Rem. It is accurate enough for what you are pursuing. Look into a Remington model 700.

22-250 is excellent varmit rifle. Very acurate out to 300 yds. My cousin has one and swears by it. Go with 22-250.
