Dear Loretta,
I don't use the word "cult" for them.
I do use such words as FALSE prophet and pseudo-Christian. Take a look at Deuteronomy 18:20-22 to see how God makes it very clear whether a person or an organization is speaking on His behalf or speaking on their own behalf.
They are persistent but I don't know that you physically have anything to fear from them. HOWEVER do be fearful for them and the fact that they face the eternal wrath of God if they do not leave the Watchtower.
Last December I was inspired to do something with them that I haven't done before. When they insisted that I read their book What the Bible Really Says I told them that I would read it ONLY if they read the material I gave them.
I gave them a pamphlet by Roy Zuck - An Open Letter to Jehovah's Witnesses. I got it at my Christian bookstore but they can also be ordered online.
I also gave them a chart that I had printed - One Truth Exposes a Thousand Lies - Traits Shared Between Jehovah and Jesus. You will find it at http://www.soulright.com
And of course pray for them.
For His glory,
JOYfilled

They worship ANOTHER Jesus and present ANOTHER gospel.
In their doctrinal errors (much like the catholics) they put one organization upon a pedastal to be the spokes person for God. For catholics it is the Pope--for JWs it is the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.
They believe the end came in 1914 and that Jesus invisibly returned to the earth. An entire mansion was built in San Diego (Beth Sarim) to house Abraham, Isaac and David. The year 1914 was determined by the founder of the JWs, Russel, by measuring the PYRAMIDS--and his grave, even today, has a pyramid built on top of it.
How are any of these things scriptural? They're no more scriptural than praying to the dead (called necromancy in the Bible). The JW organization is not "God's organization" unless you are following a false god not based on the truth in the Word of God.
There are many of us who want to help those entreached in a false prophet's cult to show them that Jesus can set them free and be their LORD and Savior--that they do not have to work for a magazine company to earn 'paradise' here on earth. That they can accept the FREE GIFT of Christ Jesus' shed blood on the CROSS, become born again and live in heaven. (They only believe 144,000 can claim to be born again and live in heaven.)
They believe Jesus is only an archangel called Michael and that Jesus was put onto a torture stake. Does this sound like the gospel of the Bible or the gospel of a false prophet to you?
Thomas delcared to Jesus as he saw the nail prints in the palms of Jesus hands--that his physical body was resurrected (not a spirit body, as JWs teach) --"My LORD and MY GOD." Jesus did not correct him. He commended him and stated that those who do not see and believe are blessed.
You can get your name off of their call list by calling the local kingdom halls and telling them to put a you on the NO CONTACT LIST. If they come to your door, get their names and which Kingdom hall they are from and contact that kingdom hall and tell them to stop contacting you. Face this head on--they can be very persistent and you can also put a sign on your front and back door for no religious solicitations.
IF you are a christian--you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You can always share with them your personal testimony and tell them that you do NOT believe that Jesus is the archangel Michael, that you do not believe Jehovah came from the star cluster Pleiades and that you do not think that the measurement of a pyramid indicated Jesus' return in 1914.

Are Jehovah’s Witnesses a sect or a cult?
Some define sect to mean a group that has broken away from an established religion. Others apply the term to a group that follows a particular human leader or teacher. The term is usually used in a derogatory way. Jehovah’s Witnesses are not an offshoot of some church but include persons from all walks of life and from many religious backgrounds. They do not look to any human, but rather to Jesus Christ, as their leader.
A cult is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader, and often their adherents live in groups apart from the rest of society. The standard for what is orthodox, however, should be God’s Word, and Jehovah’s Witnesses strictly adhere to the Bible. Their worship is a way of life, not a ritual devotion. They neither follow a human nor isolate themselves from the rest of society. They live and work in the midst of other people.

Are all rude people part of a cult?
Have you known Born Again Christians to ignore the bible law to kill yet join the military and do that very thing.
If trinitarians ignore bible laws and principles then who really is the cult? Are the trinitarians obeying Christ and preaching about God's kingdom?
Mat 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

A cult is an unorthodox religion or one that emphasizes a devotion according to prescribed ritual. Most cults follow a living human leader and they live in groups that are seperate from the rest of society. I don't think Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult at all. Jehovah's Witnesses seem to adhere strictly to the Bible, which is the standard for what is orthodox. The way they worship isn't some kind of ritual or something. It's like their way of life. Oh and they don't follow humans and everyone else would probably agree that they definitely don't seperate themselves from society. If that was the case, why would they come to your house and mine? They even have jobs and shop just like everybody else does. Oh and they do believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. I hope this was helpful to you. And I was wondering about the thing with Michael the archangel, too. So I asked and Michael means "Who is like God." And they believe that Michael is Jesus, God's son. So, they do believe in Jesus, who is referred to five times in the Bible as Micheal.

Are the Jehovah's Witnesses a cult?
Yes, by definition, they are a cult. "A group that exploits members psychologically and/or financially, typically by making members comply with leadership's demands through certain types of psychological manipulation, popularly called mind control, and through the inculcation of deep-seated anxious dependency on the group and its leaders."
Why are they so rude?
I think they're rude because they try to convince you that their way of thinking is correct. Even if that means forcing it down your throat.
Do they believe in Jesus Christ as Lord?
No, they do not. They belive that Michael the Archangel was God's son. They don't believe that Jesus was God at all.
When someone knocks on your door that you don't know, only open it a crack. If it's Jehovah's Witnesses then close the door and don't say anything.

No.

"...so rude to an elderly woman"...?
At times, a "question" such as this will elicit dozens and dozens of elaborate schemes to spare a householder an unwanted conversation with Jehovah's Witness door-to-door ministers.
All such schemes are a complete and utter waste of time!
Many of your neighbors have figured it out, and it's really quite simple:
1. Open the door
2. Smile (optional)
3. Ask "Jehovah's Witness?"
4. Receive affirmation
5. Say, "Thank you, but I'm not interested"
6. Gently close the door (slamming is rude, but your prerogative)
Please recognize that Jehovah's Witnesses are not primarily interested in converts, but in working to obey Jesus' command to preach (Matt 24:14; Matt 28:19,20).
