I thought it was interesting more than anything. As a Dale Sr. fan and a Gordon fan, thank God they didn't get the idea for a Chase a long time ago!

As far as comments about how people would have raced differently under the Chase format.... first off, the article mentions that at the end stating that it is impossible to know for certain because of that. And secondly, it still tends to lead to the belief that maybe even more seasons would have had other champions since everyone would have been racing differently. And Lastly, it was just an article of interest. If it isn't of interest to you, move on to other questions and information. I just thought for those who wondered how the Chase would have affected the past that they might enjoy looking at it. Nothing more than that.

...That is an interesting article. I never really was a fan of Marty Smith though. He found out a long time ago that posting articles like that makes you famous when the subjects relates to the most popular drivers.

...Marty Smith used controversial articles about Earnhardt Jr to achieve a lot of his popularity.

...Another thing is the chase has proven to be controversial anyway. There is some for it but I honestly believe the majority is against it. How can 10 races determine a championship?

...Great news find though. It does provide some interesting statistics.

One thing that has to be remembered in those numbers, it is that many times the Champion was already decided long before the last couple of races. Therefore, changing the way that driver would have participated.
There was no sense in killing yourself for no reason. At that point they were just driving for the race winnings.
It would be impossible to come up with any real thoughts on how any of these races or those drivers would have been effected.

Yeah, but this assumes that the drivers would have employed the same strategies racing when the points weren't reset. Who could argue against them racing conservatively back then when they were way ahead in points and so much money was on the line?

Look at the Busch Series today. Carl Edwards will win but his record during the final ten races (at least so far) is crap.

Of course, Old Ironhead would have done what it took to win the championship regardless of what the point system was. And Jeff Gordon would have whined about it...

I saw that. I'm glad as well. France is and has ruined NASCAR.
