What I am trying to do here is make my own Thai Boxing Heavy Bag. So I want it to be long like one, however I would like it to be heavier than most Thai bags out there. I have found quite a few that I would love to buy, but what can I say, if I can make something thats just as good for alot less money, that is the route I want to go.

I want the bag to be about 5 feet tall, the normal circumfrence of a boxing heavy bag, and weigh about 180 to 200 pounds. I would ofcourse use it to practice my Muay Thai, but I would also use it in similar fashion to a grappling bag, so it would need to be strong enough to be slammed on the ground and pounded on there as well.

I have a friend who works with upholstery for vehicles, so he has a wicked sewing machine for the thick and tough materials I know I will need. But he has never made one, so what I need to do is come up with the diminsions, suggested material, etc.

I know that 180 to 200 pounds sounds like alot of weight for a heavy bag, but I have practiced on some that weighed that much and loved them alot more than the normal sized ones.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some years ago i bought a large duffel bag, filled it with sand (lived near the ocean) and hung it from a suitable rafter. It was usable, but not as helpful as a "real" one. Plus, after a while the bag straps became "weary" -- a challenge there. Good luck :))

You can get a burlap sack and pack it as tight as possible with either hay or sawdust
