yes its against the law to dance in a bar that does not have a cabaret license. its been that way since the 1930's. And yes the police do enforce this law usually only when a competing bar that has paid the fee files a complaint.

Imagine that! Dancing in NYC bars! I don't know if it's ever been done before. I hope there's no "Footloose" law.

YES IT IS AGAINST THE LAW A BAR MUST HAVE A PERMIT FOR DANCING AND MOST OF THEM DOES NOT.
