Christianity is currently the largest religion in the world. It is followed by about 33% of all people -- a percentage that has remained stable for decades. If current trends continue, Islam will become the most popular world religion sometime in the mid-21st century.
About 1400 years ago, in his last sermon, Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said:
“All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white — except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefore do injustice to yourselves. Remember one day you will meet Allah and answer your deeds. So beware: Do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.”

I think that it is responsible for the terrorism in the world due to active promotion of terrorists and active funding of terrorism or the willfull blindness that is what "moderate muslims" are guilty of.
theocratic societies that have customs and beliefs that are five centuries out of date allow these kinds of extremists to grow and actually foster this kind of behavior.
islam needs to clean house, but it isn't going to be done by people protesting because they are upset by calling them terrorists when they openly support it.
