What is the best island to have a wedding at?

Not in Oahu please!!!! My HTB and I are planning our honeymoon there (we're island hopping) so we get some, ahem, alone time.

Thanks for your input :)

Hi and congratulations!

MAUI!!! That is by far the best island for weddings!
My second choice would be Kauai....very quiet.
Then, the Big Island

Definitely NOT Oahu....it's VERY CROWDED there! You may even want to scratch it (Oahu) from your list of islands to visit.
Oahu is very, very crowded around Honolulu!

Best of luck! I just love Hawaii!!

First of all, I'd like you to consider changing your honeymoon to MAUI.

I used to work for an airline, and I read extensively. From everything I've read, personally seen, and the advice I've gotten, Maui is the best honeymoon island in the world, every bit as good as Bora Bora.

I would suggest the Sheraton at Kaanapali Beach in Maui (website below). You and your husband want to de-stress, right? The beach in front of the Maui Sheraton is unique: a reef encircles the bay, so it's like swimming in a trillion gallon swimming pool. There are no waves. You can often see to the bottom. It's so relaxing. It's the perfect combination; real ocean swimming but no annoying waves to make things difficult.

Have your wedding on The Big Island. They can do so much there, and the helicopter tours are amazing. Since your guests are travelling a long way, let them do something really memorable: swim with dolphins. This is something people of practically any age can do, from young to old.

Here's a description:
"Swim with Dolphins at Dolphin Quest
Though dolphins frequent Hawaii's waters like visitors flock to its shores, up-close and personal encounters with the fascinating creatures are a gamble at best. Probably the best way to assure contact is to take part in a Dolphin Quest interactive program at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Make your reservations far enough in advance (about two months out) and you'll find yourself in the resort's lagoon mingling with well-trained dolphins. There are programs for adults and children that are both fun and educational."

So, your guests get to see The Big Island, where there is the most amazing variety of things to do, while you and your husband get the privacy of Maui, which every magazine claims as the best place on earth for a honeymoon.

(I personally think the Sheraton at Kaanapali Beach in Maui has many advantages over the Four Seasons hotel, which has been rated as the best of the best, and is considerably more expensive.)

Go to the library, and check out some old issues of Conde Nast Traveller. You'll read some great things about Maui.

All of the islands have their own unique scenery. I haven't been island hopping since i was a teenager. Is there some particular background you want for your ceremony?

I forget which island it's on but one of them has a waterfall in a grotto that's a beautiful wedding spot.

One of them has I believe it's called the queen (can't spell right now) Kameahmeah resort which is gorgeous.

The big island, I believe has volcanoes, etc....

Maui has spectacular beaches!

I'd look for a website that has HI vacation planning so you can see what each island has to offer

wish I had more specific info for you..

Congrats & Good Luck!

I agree, not in Oahu. I think Kaui or Maui. Go for something more tropical. But make sure you can get your alone time. Honolulu is nice. I was just at Waikiki Beach in June. But not good for a wedding. Good Luck. Take lots of money.

Black Sand Beach on the Kona side of the Big Island is beautiful. Or have your wedding on the Hilo side, near or on the volcano flows... Thurston Lava Tube and surrounding area are FANTASTIC.

Or you could do it on Kauai. There are a lot of options there as well.

Have you tried the town of Lahaina... it's a beautiful area.

Check out the wedding places there here:

This site has all the wedding places in Hawaii you can browse through as well. You can see them on a map to see if the location is what you want.

Good luck. Research as many as you can, the perfect place is out there.

The best by past exp is defiently Molokai and Maui.
Not the big hawaian isaland for alone time, too busy there. There is nothing in Lanai and Kauaic besides cenerary.
