Paganism covers all religions outside of the Abrahamic ones so they would each have their own procedures to do so. Find someone knowledgable on the particular belief you want to convert to and they can fill you in on the details.

Read.

You do not have to deny anything. In fact, I think JC was a hell of a guy, and if it weren't for Paul (what an asshole) christianity would probably be a lot better off, but I digress.

Like others have said, Read.

Read a lot. And talk, preferably with people who are pagan, and have been for a while. Talk to all kinds of pagans, and if some folks strike you as particularly level headed, talk to them some more. Ask to attend rituals, but be polite, and before you commit to *anything* find and read a copy of the Seeker's Bill of Rights. If anyone that you contact smells fishy, turn around and walk away.

I've never heard of a religion that bans ex-members of certain other religions. The procedures for joining a new religion are the same for everyone regardless of background.

"Paganism" isn't a religion but a collection of religions, and conversion procedures will vary according to the specific religion. Many Neopagan religions have no formal requirements: you are a member if you say you are a member, or after you pledge yourself to the appropriate deities. Others require formal training and/or initiation.

I was raised Seventh Day Adventist I left the church at a young age and about 10 years later I self dedicated as a solitary Wiccan.

I would say read as much as you can about the practice that interestes you. Try to find others in your area who practice and see if you can find somone to teach you. Just be careful when picking a group or person. Not everyone out there is legit or has the best of intentions for the people they tutor.

LOL Most pagans where Christian. I was born Catholic, was "Saved" then went agnostic before coming to paganism. "Converting" depends on the tradition. The best way to start is to start learning. I like paganspath.com for people who are looking for the basics but that's just me. Scott Cunningham is a good place to start and then branch out from there.

Hi catsa: Pagans do not believe in converting. If you want to become pagan then just declare to yourself in your heart...Yes, begin reading as many books as you can. But equally, if you live in a lage community begin seeking out oher pagans, and or witches, depending on where your own indiviual paganism wants to go. And most of all good luck and the Gods be with you.

Paganism is a completely free religion, so if you wish to join then it is all possible. To be Pagan, you don't have to have a Wiccaning etc. Just find out where to but altars, tools etc., and read plently of books.

Altough I am not sure about Voodoo, there is not a link between Paganism and Voodoo.

Learn as much as you can. Read anything you can get your hands on, talk to as many people as possible, and don't rush into anything.

With regards to Voodoo, most practitioners of Voodoo consider themselves to be good Catholics; Voodoo is a hybrid of African tribal religions brought over by the slaves, and Catholicism. A good book to start with is Kenaz Filan's "The Haitian Voodoo Handbook".

As for paganism, I have a lot of reviews of books I've read at http://lupabitch.wordpress.com (the left sidebar also has links to other reviewers' sites). However, for a first book, I'd recommend Nicholas Graham's "The Four Powers: Magical Practice for Beginners of All Ages".

To talk to people, start online. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com and http://www.meetup.com and punch the name of the nearest city and the word "pagan" into the searches there; you should find listserves and meetings for local pagans. Google the city name and "pagan", too, since some communities have city-specific websites with listings of local resources. I also like the pagan communities on Livejournal; even the non-city-specific ones can lead me to local people.

Once you've met some folks online and feel comfortable meeting people in person, see about going to a public event such as Pagan Pride Day events or public rituals ro meetups.

There's a lot in paganism as far as paths go; give yourself time to learn as much as you can, and don't feel pressured to choose something right away. Talk to other people about their paths and wha tthey like and dislike about them.

Considering that a good number of Pagans are ex-Christians, I'd say yes.

You convert the same way you convert to any other religion: research it, and decide that it's the religion that you want and identify with.

Yes! All you need to do is educate yourself. Find books and sites on Paganism and choose what path you are interested in. Then, you can find a teacher. Not always is that possible (as in my case), so sometimes some people have to teach themselves. Remember to read and study all you can.
