You shouldn't give it anything yourself. You should take the kitten to the vet. It probably has a viral upper respiratory infection. If that's the case, there isn't much you can do except ride it out. The vet may prescribe antibiotics to avoid a secondary bacterial infection, but it depends on the vet. It sounds like Feline Rhinotracheitis to me (feline herpesvirus), but the only way to know for sure is to check with the vet. It's never a good idea to give human medications to pets, or to medicate animals if you don't know what is wrong with them. It could very well kill them.

YOU don't give it anything! You take it TO A VET!!!!!! Your kitten has the right BY LAW to receive proper care and to deny it is abuse. And don't whine and say you "can't afford it." If you cannot afford to properly care for any pet then you have no right to have one. There are vets that will take monthly payments. You should have thought of this BEFORE you got a pet. Get a second job if you have to but get that kitten to the vet!

Are you even aware that many people medicines are poisonous to cats? Especially a small one like a kitten. People medicines can be very toxic.

TAKE THE KITTEN TO THE VET!! And don't sit on your butt and wait - kittens don't have large amounts of reserves and can go downhill quickly.

New kitten often get sick when they get to a new home. Normally a good vet will prescibe an antibiotic to be sure it will never develop into something else. So go to the vet and everything will be good.

If it's a presian you might want to rub his nose from time to time to be sure that he breath easy.

Could be he has an allergy, a virus, or a bacterial infection. That's why you need to take him to a vet. He would need different treatment for each.

BTW -- if it is feline herpes, you definitely want him to see a *good* vet ASAP. Just like with humans, the earlier he receives treatment, the better off he'll be and the recurrences will be less frequent and more mild.

Don't give your kitten anything, unless it's prescribed by the vet. Instead, make a nice warm place for him to lay, well away from any drafts. A veterinarian can diagnose the problem and give you medicine.

Good luck!
