Tengo poquito espanol. How much difficulty will I have learning Portugese? Any good books or web sites to help me?

Hola Reynwater, como es tu? Hablo un poco espanol tambien. I have two friends that speak Portugese. One from Brazil and one from Portugal. Both have said that they can understand Spanish and have tried to explain the differences to me, but portuguese does not sound a bit like spanish to me. I can catch a word here and there, but not much. I'd probably understand more if I read the language since I can understand spanish better when I read it as well. However, I am told that they are very similar and I'm sure that that a smart lady like yourself won't have a bit of trouble learning :).

I'm a spanish native speaker... I don't know portuguese but I can tell you that portuguese is very similar to spanish... When I hear somebody speaking portuguese, generally I'm able to understand what they say. Hear you have a nice website to study spanish and portuguese online
