All who followed Jesus were regarded as Disciples as they were learning from the Teacher, but the Apostles(also disciples) were selected and taught more intimately by Jesus and therefore ordained to preach the Good News etc.

A disciple is a "student" of the teacher/master, and an apostle is the extension of the teacher whom he [the disciple now apostle] had direct contact with.

well, first cool question ;^) to answer your question...all the apostles were disciples (Students or followers) of Jesus, but not all disciples were chosen to be apostles by Jesus. only fourteen in total...the original twelve, but after Judas hung himself they (the eleven others) chose matthias (the 13th) to take his place. then the apostle Paul became the 14th.
the apostles were baptised with the holy spirit and were able to impart miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit by the laying on of their hands. but disciples later were baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ. and the disciples that were given the gifts by the apostles were not able to pass them on to others. when the gentiles (non-jews) were able to receive God's grace they were given the spirit the same way the apostles were in the beginning, and later were baptized with water, but were not able to impart gifts as they were. and now these days there are no longer apostles, but disciples of Jesus Christ are still baptized in water for the forgiveness of sins and the receiving of the Holy Spirit. :^)

disciples follow.
apostles are sent out.
an example in the Christian tradition is the group that followed Jesus. He has many many disciples (crowds following him) but he sent out the 12 apostles to do miracles in his name.

Apostles were one of the twelve plus St. Paul, disciples were all believers and Saints are anyone in Heaven but for the official title meaning it is proved these people are in Heaven from miracles performed on their behalf, the church actually has to canonize them

There were only 12 apostles. Priests today are said to be modern day apostles, who get to actually use the rituals given by Jesus. The disciples however, were all followers of Jesus, although they couldn't perform miracles or masses. Modern day disciples are any Christians. By the way, the word disciple came from the latin word discipuli, meaning student or one who learns.

Apostles have seen Jesus with their eyes- and are then sent to do God's work. I would guess those to be very rare these days.
All Christians are disciples- or should be- that is disciplined to do His will.
