Help on Fibromyalgia and Interstatial Cystits?

I am 20 years old and I was diagnoses with Interstatial cystits two years ago and I 100% beleive I also have Fibromyalgia. I have had lots of tests done and all come back fine. I have tried some medication and nothing works. Doctors dont seem to beleive me and just tell me to take advil. I have had to drop out of high school because the pain is so bad. sometimes I can't even get out of my bed. I was wondering if anyone can help me with the pain and if anyone has been diagnosed with both. Thanx

There aren't any specific tests for fibromyalgia or cystitis - the tests used for both of these conditions are mainly to rule out other causes, so the test results only tell you what you don't have. Cystitis and fibromyalgia are diagnosed almost arbitrarily by listing the symptoms and picking the diagnosis that fits best. The symptoms of these two conditions can overlap so much that there are likely to be circumstances, such as yours, where you can't tell which one you have.

Even though the two conditions have similar symptoms, the treatments are different. Since you are not getting pain relief with your present treatment, it would make sense to try some of the pain treatments used for fibromyalgia. If your present doctor doesn't agree, go to a different doctor and focus the discussion on finding pain relief, not on whether you have fibromyalgia or cystitis - the problem is that you are not getting pain relief.
