You must take a two step approach.
First, you should use advantage on the Dog.
Second, you must spray the living quarters of the dog with
a flea killer which contains an insect growth regulator to inhibit the growth of eggs. If it's an inside Dog you must spray the Carpet, outside you must spray the lawn or call a pest control company.

Proper flea treatments from a vet, like Frontline, Revolution and Advantage aren't particularly expensive.
There are cheaper things available in pet stores - but since they don't work, it'd be a bigger waste of money to actually buy them!
Go to a vets for some proper treatment, don't start trying out cheap subsitutes or home remedies - the last lady I knew who did that had a £140 bill for toxicity. Cheaper if she'd just bought the Frontline in the first place!

Try washing the dog with a little Borax soap, and rinse very well, then wash again with Doggie shampoo. Or, for about the same cost ($10) you can buy flea shampoo and wash the pooch at home.
If it is a reoccuring problem, your aunt should ask her vet about flea pills (since flea bites can cause infections, spread disease, etc). The pills are only about $10, but you have to give them to the dog 3-4 times a year I think.

get a pill called CapStar. Fairly cheap. Shop around, some vets sale it for less than other. The pill will kill all of the fleas on the dog within a matter of minutes. I love the stuff. I have a whole supply at my house just in case I see a flea on my dog!
if her house is already infested, then you have a bigger problem on your hands. someone once told me it was called a "war on fleas" for a reason! And let me tell you, it is!! the only thing that worked for me (besides daily capstar pills) is professional spraying and powdering and vacuuming the carpets daily!
Good luck!!

Not really. The most inexpensive effective way to deal with it is to buy Frontline Plus or Advantage through a reputable online dealer. I like Doctors Foster and Smith's website. Don't use E-bay though - there have been lots of scams there. Frontline and Advantage are more expensive but they actually work unlike cheaper pet store products like shampoos, sprays, flea bombs and collars.

get some revolution, advantage, or any other topical treatment from your vet. they are not that expensive, about $15 dollars a month. but, it is better than having fleas in the long run.
