Definitely, Shenzhen is the first city in Mainland China you would arrive in.

However, if you're going to Mainland China, I suggest just take KCR East Rail up to Lo Wu Station. It's only about 42 minutes from Hung Hom Station.

Four hours...hmmmm....you wouldn't get far by car...first you got to get to the border at Lok Ma Chau, which could take a few hours with the traffic in HK...then at Lok Ma Chau, it's always so congested, you might have to wait behind 200 trucks maybe one hour or so by the time you figure out all the forms you have to fill, and hopefull you got the permit to take your car across the border....then you're in Huanggang in Shenzhen...more traffic jam...assuming you can get through Shenzhen without any accident with your left-hand drive, you won't get too far up after Dongwan....

very confirmed answer here
about 3 hours from HK city can take you to Guangzhou city via Shenzhen and Dongguan on a jam-free highway.

There is border control between HK and Shenzhen. A car without goods is cleared quickly.

All I know is that the traffic lights in Fujian province do not work at all when I visited in 2002. Anyone know if the government has repaired them?
