flash lights and a loud bang sound?

As mentioned the flash and bang are inversely proportional to barrel length. This is because in a long barreled gun, the powder has more time to burn completely. This also projects the bullet faster. A short barrel does not give the powder enough time to burn, and much of it can be wasted as it continues to burn and expend after the bullet has exited the barrel.

The "muzzle flash" cause by the burning powder exiting the barrel can be blinding in low light conditions, so be careful - especially if you have a "snubby" for self defense, especially one with a decent powder load such as .357 magnum.

The shorter the barrel is, the louder it will be, and you will also have more flash with short barrels v/s long barrels of the same caliber.

The longer the barrel the smaller the muzzle flash & muzzle blast.*
