My shins are so oversensitive. Even touching them hurts. It has been this way for probably a yr, but seems like its getting much worse, since now it hurts when i walk too. I tried researching it online, and all that keeps coming up is about runners getting shin splints. Well, i dont run, and spend only an average amount of time on my feet (i dont work standing all day or anything). Last night my 4 yr old ran into my shins and i literally saw stars and thought i would pass out from the pain. What could this be? And please dont tell me to go to the Dr...i know i should, but i have a phobia of Dr's.

I am sorry to hear of your pain, pain is not an easy thing to live with day in and day out. You must get over your phobia of Dr's and see one - it sure beats the alternative's, living with this or an untimely death over something that could be treated. There could be any number of reasons for this pain, from a bad disc in your back, shin splints (and it is not just runners that can develop them!), or even thrombosis, a blood clot in the legs. There are so many things, all treatable, that could be going on, and it will only take a visit to your Dr. to help you out. For the sake of your 4 year old, please have this checked out before it escalates into something irreversible!

It could be shin splints. They occur when the muscles in your calves are much stronger than the ones in your shins, or when you have strained the muscles in your shins. There are exercises that you can do at home to strengthen and stretch your shins. Doing them twice daily will relieve the symptoms... at least from my personal experience. you sit on the couch with one leg crossed over the top of the other so your foot is off the floor and make the ABC's with your foot forward and backward. it will be rather uncomfortable at first but if you stick with it the pain will subside in a week or two.

Got to a doctor. In the meantime maybe do some stretching and ankle flexing to get the circulation going and loosen up the muscles. I get shin pain in my left leg and this helps me.
