I was just wondering how hard it was to get a creit card from Davids Bridal, and if anyone knew. My credit is not good at all and I am trying to re build my credit. I am getting married in Sept so thought that this would be a good way to try and rebuild my credit, but do not know how they are on credit scores and approving applications. Any comments would be great! Thanks

check their website or on a forum for credit cards. Most companies are looking into 620's and up.

Davids Bridal Credit

Don't get a David's Bridal card (well don't let your parents get one). It will hurt their credit score when they open it, and then it will hurt them again when they close it. It isn't a store you will shop at once this wedding is done, and it will just hurt their credit all around, especially when the card is closed from not using. Try to see if you can get any type of card in your name, like a Visa or Mastercard to start building your credit. Anyone with a job can get one, but they start with low limits, $500-$1000. At least with a major credit card you are building up your credit history, and you will have a credit card in case of an emergency like your car broke down and the tow guy wants $100 (happened to me) Or have your parents use one of their credit cards, not open a new one. If they are going to open one, have them open a major credit card, VISA master card etc, that has a rewards program, like the Knot's card. Be sre to have them add you as an authorized user and swear you won't charge anything without approval and be sure to pay everything you charge in a timely manner so their credit doesn't get trashed. You may also want to look into events in your area. At Filene's Basements annual running of the bride's, I got a $3500 dress for $300! After alterations and everything, it is going to be about $600 total. They even had Vera Wang at this event! Nothing was above $700, and everything was new. It was great event. You might want to check and see what is going on in your area. David's Bridal is only a good place for the $99 gown sale, otherwise everything is overpriced and poor quality. Don't buy your undergarments or accessories from David's Bridal, you can get betters ones for the same price or cheaper somewhere else.

well really how often are you going to shop at Davids Bridal after your wedding. Probably not at all. If you are worried about not being able to afford wedding items there are lots of inexpensive alternatives and a lot of stores have 99 dollar gowns sales..david bridal included. Instead of a store card I would look into getting a regular bank credit card with a low interest rate and you can ask them to start you out with a low credit amount.

I can understand where everyone is coming from, however, I know where you are too. I have a David's Bridal card. I don't know how easy they are to get because my credit score was good when I applied.

As for asking them, I don't know how well that will work. I've tried asking companies before and most want the application before they'll tell you anything. Don't misunderstand, ask them first - if you know your score, all the better! However, if they're one of those that won't tell you and you haven't applied for any other credit in awhile, the one inquiry won't hurt you too bad.

If you can't get a card, go ahead and pay cash and continue working on buidling up your credit. Start by working toward any negatives into positives and paying bills on time. Rebuilding credit isn't "hard" it just takes time. You'll get there, I did.

The absolute worst thing you can do to rebuild credit is to get a credit card and buy something that you can't afford to pay for with cash. Build up a couple thousand in your short term savings, and keep a minimum of $500 in your checking account at all times. Then keep a record of your bank statements.

Start with payng all utility bills on time. Never be late.

Banks are going to look at this sort of history and see you as more stable than looking at credit cards for things you can't afford to pay for with cash.

After you maintain the savings/checking then get a visa card that has the best terms you can get. Use it only when needed and pay it off each month in full.

I can assure you that if you were to build up your checking savings, your need to even use a credit card is drastically lowered.

If you do decide to go with this Dave's Bridal just be sure to pay the entire balance. Or it just looks on your credit report like you are buying things you can't pay for.

Making mininum payments on credit cards just looks like you are over extended.

unless this company does "in-house" credit, their own credit card is backed by a bank. Ask them if they do their own. If so, the standards will be lower and easier to get. If they use a bank, check with that bank as to requirements BEFORE you apply. Remember, each application you file for ANY credit deducts a few points off your credit rating whether or not you are approved.

starting out in marriage with a ton of debt I think is the number one reason for divorce within a year in this country. My wife got her dress from Good Will (a second hand store) and she looked like a princess. She didn't tell me till after we were married either but I didn't care.
