Depends on the compliments with the chicken. Heavily seasoned or pan fried, especially with heavier or heartier sauce...I would go with a Pinot Noir. Baked or served with a white sauce or lemon butter. Drier white wine...preferably like a Sauvignon blanc. Sometimes executed properly a peppery Riesling isn't that bad either!

Just have to add this tidbit. the two of you who gave a thumbsdown on my suggestions need to put down the white zin!

What Wine Goes With Chicken

that depends entirely on how you are preparing the chicken actually. If you are roasting it and serving it up like thanksgiving turkey with all the fixings, then pinot noir would be good match. But if you are having it with an alfredo sauce, chardonnay would be best. Sauvignon Blanc could also go well like if you have it with a citrus type dish. And if you are making an italian dish like Chicken Caccitore, which has a heavy red tomato sauce, you could do a sangiovese.

The old rule of white with white meat and red with red kind of doesn't work anymore. And you should get what you like.

That said, I usually do pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc, except when I have the above mentioned chicken Caccitore when I serve up sangiovese. I think the Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc are way more food friendly than Chardonnay. Which when made with too much oak, or too much malolactic fermentation can be very heavy for chicken.

Depends how the chicken is cooked, spicy, mild, fried, broiled, etc., If someone says white without asking, then their being a slave to a rule that makes no sense, and probably shun metal screw-off caps (cork is both over harvested and over rated).

Bottom line, don't worry about when to have a white or red, drink what you like, but pay attention, eventually you note that some wines bring out the flavors in certain foods better than others, viola, you're half way there.

It depends what kind of chicken it is. If it is chicken parm, then a red would go great with it. If it is just plain baked chicken, then a white wine is great. BBQ chicken would go really well with a Belgium Lambic beer like Landemans Framboise.

Any wine!!

Chicken is a delightful background that will let a fine red wine, say a Bordeaux, shine or a white wine, say a Chardonnay, triumph...

However, note the what the chicken is cooked with and in is a factor -- that is -- you may choose a different wine if having a chicken curry than if having plain roasted chicken :)

It depends on the chicken dish but I would go with a white wine. Either a chardonnay or a pinot grigio. You could use a pinot noir if you are making an italian style chicken dish with a red sauce or vodka sauce.

It depends on how you are cooking the chicken.

Traditionally it's been, white meat - white wine, but I don't think that has to be that way.

If you are making it spicy, like mexican or curry. Then I would go with a white wine. Maybe a viognier.

Otherwise, you could go with a pinot noir, if you are baking it or BBQ'ing it.
