To be excommunicated?

Questions:

1. What horrific act would I have to commit?

2. What verses of the Bible deal with excommunication?

3. Do only Catholics excommunicate? I'm not a Catholic :-(

4. Once I have been excommunicated, what will happen to me?

5. Will I go to hell if I have been excommunicated?

Thanks!

Why do you care?

Assume god is a big hoax... why does any of this stuff matter?

Catholic, Mormons, Lutherans, Anglicans, Mennonites, and the Amish all practice excommunication. In the book of 1 Corinthians, chapter 5, Paul talks about expelling immoral members from the congregation.

The Catholic Church and LDS are the only ones that have a definite set of standards for why a person should be excommunicated. For the rest, it general involves committing a sin repeatedly without repentance. I would say apostasy or promoting false teachings would probably do it.

It varies with the denominations. For some, excommunication isn't permanent, and the former member can still communicate with those in the church. Others practice shunning, where other members aren't allowed to have anything to do with you.

Just because you have been excommunicated doesn't mean you still can't make things right with God.

I feel that you don't want anything to do with religion. Well, that may be the case and if that is so........go live like a heathen. Only the Catholics excommunicate. If you are not a Catholic then why worry? There are no verses in the Bible that deal with excommunication, you see, all of this is man made rules that you are talking about. That is why there are so many different denominations; rules to govern their people and to keep them there in the church. Man made rules I might add. So........if you are not Catholic, you have nothing to worry about. I hope this has helped, Blessings

You can't be an "ex-husband" until you are a husband first...to be "ex"communicated, you first have to be in communion with a religious group. Specifically, you would have to be a Catholic. So if you aren't Catholic, sorry Charlie, you can't achieve your goal no matter what you do. Now, if you want to go through the whole process of becoming a Catholic, they will tell you exactly what you need to do to become excommunicate...but that seems like a lot of work just to achieve a dubious title.

Personal experience. I asked to be excommunicated from the Mormon church so I could get my name removed from membership roles.
Mormons and Jw's ( I think) excommunicate. I assume every Christian church will excommunicate if pushed.
What happens? I signed papers and I have never been bothered by them again.
As far as I know they teach I will go to hell. I think they just might be surprised.

I'm not an expert on this but I think basically any grave sin would excommunicate you. I know that having an abortion would do it.

Being excomunicated doesn't say anything about where you go after you die, it just means that you can't fully participate in the church until you seek forgviness. The church has never defined who is in hell.

If you commit a horrific act THAT YOU ARE NOT SORRY FOR and you defiantly continue in it, then you are pretty much booted.

JW's excommunicate.

Not sure about other denoms. PRobably do.

If you recant before you die, or even have a regret, then probably you will have a line back to the good place. If you die without regrets, and in defiance, then probably there's a good chance you end up in the firey pits of hell. But no one has really come back to tell.

Ex-Communication simply means to separate from all contact, be it physical, verbal, electronic etc.. Padres used to brandish about "Large Words" in pomposity as a method of "Controlling the Peasants" who were not as well "Educated" in "Evil" ways as the Padres were. Being "Ex-Communicated" will Free U to become a "Child of God" by coming to know Christ as the Savior. "Don't Worry, Be HAPPY" as the song says!!! John

It all depends upon the group that you're associated with.

(5) I believe that salvation of the eternal soul, and assurance of the kingdom of heaven, is with the covenant of the New Testament. I believe that once someone opens his/her heart and mind to the love and mercy of the one true God, and accepts Jesus with a sincere and repentant heart, that he/she is forever assured heaven. I do not believe that a Christian is ever able to turn his/her heart to stone against God after coming to know Him.
