Generally no fasting is required for any X-ray, including abdominal X-rays. But there are times when certain parts of the body, such as the lumbar spine and the abdominal organs, need to be clearly seen. In these cases fasting and sometimes bowel prep is required.

I wouldn't be so quick to say you "obviously had a stomach X-ray". You didn't state which part or parts of your body were involved and the stomach is located in only a part of the entire abdomen.

So they can find what they are looking for. the stuff in your stomach would hide a lot of things from the x-ray.

Obviously you are having a stomach xray. If there were food in you intestines it would show dark therefore blocking some things. They want your stomach empty so there is no obstruction on the xray, making it easier to see what's going on inside you.
