The best way to get rid of flea problems is to treat all the dogs. Which for you would be hard since they aren't yours. Most environments take 3 months to be flea free
Advantage- helps to kill adult fleas at the source, they bite your dog then it dies so no new fleas hatch.
Other types are
Program- this prevents eggs from hatching and the adult fleas will die of natural causes. It can be given monthly by paste or tablet..or by injection that last 6 months
Revolution-applied once monthly topically. The advantage to this one is it also helps to prevent against heartworm, and parasite like mites and intestinal worms

If you're properly treating your dog AND your house then you will be safe.
Don't use flea baths, they do nothing. And if you bath the dog within 48 hours before or after applying the Advantage, the Advantage won't work! Lose the baths.
Treat your own dog regularly with Advantage, make sure it gets on the skin. Also pick up a proper house spray from your vets so your house is protected.
When you say the 6 dogs are 'around' your house what does that mean exactly? If they're strays, get them picked up! If not, see if you can have a word with the owners.

First of all whos dogs are they? Get rid of them and your problem is over. But i know they may be easier said then done. You need to call animal control or the SPCA and get those dogs away from your house. If your feeding those 6 dogs stop. After the dogs are gone continue with the Advantage and make sure you dont have fleas in your carpet of anywhere in your house.

I would suggest bathing the dog a day or two before hand and then applying advantage, promeris, or frontline. If you find fleas on your dog you can go to your vet and get a pill called a Capstar that will immediately kill the fleas, though it won't prevent them from coming back.

Well flea baths are not always effective but if all the other dogs have fleas you should give all the dogs a treatment and the owners could pay you for that.
To my dogs I gaved a vaccine is really effective but you can also use drink treatment :)

yes, if you are using something like advantage, revolution, one of the flea medicines you get from the vet, you should not have fleas on your dog. the medicine keeps working for the month and then reapply each months to keep fleas away. good luck.

i found that if you use tide it helps get rid of the fleas and if you want to keep them off make sure you use flea powder on you carpet in your home and some on your dog as well but tide laundry detergent makes the fleas blow up and it really kills them and the eggs.

Advantage should do the trick. Just make sure the shampoo you are using is not a soap based shampoo, or it will wash off the Advantage.
