I'm putting together a humorous speech about being a young parent for a college class revealing the "ugly truths" of having kids at an early age.. for example:

"If it looks like peanut butter, smells like peanut butter, and feels like peanut butter... It might not be peanut butter."

What are some of the "Golden Rules" you've learned about being a parent that I might be able to incorporate into my speech?

Thanks!

Be nice to your kids---they will some day be picking out your rest home.

I really don't have a gold rule yet, my baby is only 7 months. But what we learned so far is
when feeding a baby, wear your raingear. Carrots + a baby = a new shirt for mommy
AND
never do the poke test, too dangerous (it is either sniff, peek or poke when you think the baby has a dirty diaper)

Just because it seems obvious doesn't mean it is.
Because I said so really is a good answer.
Always take time to be a kid with your kid otherwise you miss some great stuff.
Never store your breast milk in an unlabeled container when you have guests.

The volume of a child's cry grows exponentially with the hour of the day, and it hits its peak at 3:00am

How about this,
Do you think the little peanut is cute? only if she sleep better and you are exhauseted, she cries louder and you are very stronger.
