They are now saying the water is brownish/rust colored so it isn't from condensation. It has been found to some degree in many cars even the 48 had water in the carb.
The likely source is the tanks, pipes or pumps that are underground even though Sunoco disputes it.

...The article states there was water in the cars but there was no water in the Sunoco tanks or fuel cans. During the race a statement was made about some extra heat generated by the RO7 engines and the headers and it being hot on Martin Truex's feet.
...I don't know if this could happen but it may be the fuel lines are routed over a heat source (like close to the header) and then enters a cool area before the fuel reaches the carburator. The heating and cooling could create condensation in the lines.
...This is purely speculation on my part and serves as a possible cause of the water. Maybe the cautions also help the cars heat and cool more and helps contribute to the process.
...Again I'm not expert, just offering thought but I did notice the article states there was water in several car's fuel cells as well so that means condensation wasn't the problem.

Nascar wouldnt admit it if they did find water in the tanks....but alot of the cars sounded like they were popping and missing when they left pit road....even Jr had a power problem on the first green flag run....The gibbs boys all had trouble all day long so its hard to say if it was a fuel problem or if they just had a bad setup...

I think someone reported it, then others jumped on the band wagon. I find it hard to believe water in the fuel cells.and with the heat these engines produce at the speed the fuel is pumped through the lines condensation would be a problem. Just my two cents.

Well the source of the water has not been found, and SUNOCO does not know where it come from so I guess we now know what happens when the drivers have to releive themselfs during the race.

A real oddity. Sunoco said their was none in their main tank. Of course they will say that until someone steps up and checks it out as an outsider. As Sunoco is a major sponsor of NASCAR, you can be certain NASCAR won't dispute them.

Sounds like condensation in regards to the cars. I'm surprised that there isn't an additive they can put in the gas tank. There probably is, though. Sunoco checked the pumps & there was nothing wrong, so they say.

Well they found water in Jimmy's engine too, so that rules out Chad Knaus.
