Word 2004 Promote/demote indentation inquiry?

Question

I was able to demote a level by clicking "delete key" once and it'd bring me back up one level but this morning the delete key trick didn't work at all which forced me to click "Tab + shift" in order to get the same effect. This is extremely annoying/time-consuming when fast note taking and I was wondering if someone had a solution for it. MS Office for mac (Word 2004) in notebook layout. Thanks!

Use the 2 Indent Icons on the Toolbar. One has a right Arrow and the other a left arrow.

In Word, click on the Help Tab for more info and search for: Indent
