There's not much in the LAX area for you to do. The area near the airport isn't the best or the safest.
Do drive up the 405 freeway and go to the Howard Hughes center. It's an outdoor mall with some decent restaurants and a killer movie theater, "The Bridge". Splurge for the most expensive theater tickets - assigned, wide leather seats. There's also an IMAX.

Really the question should be "What do you like to do?"
LA is huge and you can find just about anything you could want there. There are loads and loads of things to see and do.
If you want to be a tourist go to Universal Studios and Hollywood. But only go to Hollywood during the day. Also check out Rodeo drive in Beverly Hills.
For beaches - check out Santa Monica, Venice, New Port and Huntington Beach. Stay away from Venice at night but during the day its a trip.
For funky shops go to Melrose between Fairfax and La Brea. Maybe have lunch at the farmers market.
If you like museums don't miss the getty center or the la brea tarpits.
If you like food - don't miss in-n-out burger. Find a small family run hole in the wall mexican restaurant and chow down. Don't go to a chain. Mom and Pop mexican places have the best food and it is cheaper.
You will really need access to a car in LA. Everything is far apart. If you don't have a car, it will be hard, but you can get around a bit. Do your homework and look up the subway and the bus lines. Being right near LAX isn't the best, but not the worst either. You should be able to get transport to Santamonica and from there you can get the express bus and Santa Monica blvd.
You will only be there 3 days so you will never see it all. LA is almost as large as Connecticut. So be smart. Pick a few things you think you would like to do and concentrate on them.

A lot of very nice beach areas arent too far from LAX. Just head south and go to Manhatten Beach for lunch on Manhattan Ave, Then take a walk out on the pier. Not far from there is Hermosa Beach which has a lot of great little shops and of course, the strand, where people bicycle and skate.
A little further yet is Redondo Beach. The pier isnt as big as it used to be, but it's still great for strolling. I didnt include Venice Beach because it can get a little rough at times. But-if you can overlook that, the people on the strand there are worth the price of gas. Talk to some of the locals and they'll be able to point you to the best places to eat and shop. Enjoy your time here in LA.

Try these things to see in L.A.---Have Fun----->>>>>>>>>>>>
1.Eat at Pinks or Pinkberry or In and Out burger-In and Out has really good chesseburgers.
Their totally fresh French fries ironically I don’t like because they are too “crumbly”? I like McDonalds crispy French
Fries better (even though they are not fresh and are flash frozen. Pinks is OK but not worth a real long wait. They need to clean up and freshen up the street area a little.
