Well, the first four of the commandments are religiously specific, so the "regardless of your religion or belief" is rather a moot point.

As to the commandments to not bear false witness against a neighbor, not to steal, murder, commit adultery etc., yes they are a pretty good set of moral rules, and those are a pretty universal set of moral rules.

The Judeo-Christian religions do NOT have a monopoly on morality.

I don't believe the 10 commandments are a good set of moral laws.

First off, there are two of them that indirectly support slavery - the one about not have your servants/slaves work on the sabbath and the one about not coveting your neighbor's servants/slaves.

Second off, it insists that there is only one god and therefore does not support freedom of religion, freedom of thought or religious pluralism.

Third, the whole idea of not coveting might be a nice psychological idea but it is completely against the concept of freedom of thought. I may not be allowed to act on some of my thoughts but I should have the right to think whatever I want.

So what is left - don't lie, cheat, steal or murder. Any civilized society with members over the age of 12 should be able to figure that out by themselves. They don't need a god to tell them to do it.

Following the Ten Commandments is virtually impossible, it has never been accomplished (except by Jesus). The Ten Commandments were not given to the Jews to be a good and moral set of rules, they were given to the Jews to show them that the were indeed sinning, and the only way to save themselves was through God.

Jesus gave us a good and moral set of standards, not rules:
1) Love God with all your heart and soul
2) Love your neighbor as you would love yourself

Yes, I try to follow the Ten Commandments. Those Commandments are sorta like the US Constitution...but dealing with moral issues not political issues. Wouldn't it be great if everyone followed the primary Commandment: Love they neighbor?

I think for the most part everyone does, even though they may not admit it, they seem more like general rules really, I mean the ten commandments are really what we base our laws on, most of them anyway.

Only a few make sense and they were in society before the supposed tablets were created. I know not to kill but I certainly don't believe that I should put that deity before all others as they are all equally unproved.

Yes; Shame a lot of Christians do not. I have yet to meet one that does not lie at least occasionally

Why don't you just ask if anyone can come up with a better 10?

Most of them - but obviously not the one about other gods.
