ok this is the situation:

Say you rescued a puppy from a very high kill and overcrowded shelter. they didn't check references or anything.

Then say the puppy was too much for the person who rescued it, even though that person did do alot of puppy researching prior. Say the person was just overwhelmed..

and suddenly an opportunity came up to give the puppy to a perfect home: a veterinarian looking for a puppy at the same time.

so you arrange for her to meet the puppy at a park, no plans on giving the puppy, just to see what happened. The vet falls in love, wants the puppy right then you still overwhelmed agree.

Then your kids are heartbroken and your husband is mad at you even tho you discussed giving the puppy up with them prior to this.

The vet does not want to give puppy back. And you are feeling like a terrible person. What would you do????!!

I would be glad for the puppy that she now has a good home, then wait until I was in a better position to have a dog and rescue an older dog from a shelter.

Nothing. Just leave the puppy there. You will still be overwhelmed. Everyone is already upset. They will get over it. Let's face it, the puppy care fell on you. No matter what Dad and Kids say, the truth is that the whole of the care and work fell to you. That will not change. If you did get the dog back, it would be the same thing all over. Just leave it alone. The dog is safe and happy. The vet is a good home for the dog. Your family is already mad, and they will get over it. Later on, when the kids are bigger and you don't have so much to do yourself, you might get another dog. But for now, just leave it.
And don't feel guilty. Life is short. You did the best you could do. It's really tough to be the Mom- primary caregiver- second income- beautiful woman-- loving wife- perfect person. You did ok. This isn't the end of the world. And I do understand. (((hugs))) it's ok. Just leave it alone for now. Everything will turn out all right.

I'd keep the puppy with the veterinarian, even if it means sad faces at my home for a few days. Why?
-The puppy is better of with a person who loves it and is not changing his/her mind everytime.
-Your family might want the puppy back, but after 2 weeks the situation will be back to normal and you'll feel overwhelmed again.
-It's not good for a puppy to change homes and owners every few weeks, this can be really harmful to his personality.
I think you did good rescuing this puppy but if you couldn't take it forever, you also did the best finding a new home. Now it's time to step aside, hopefully, he'll have a long life of love and care with his new family.

Why not go back to that same kill-shelter and save another life? One a little older, maybe 6 months, so that housebreaking and training are easier. Your kids and hubby will love you for it. Also- if you have the time in the future, I'll bet your family would LOVE it if you fostered other pups the way you fostered the first one before you gave it to the vet. You would be directly saving lives, helping the shelter, and teaching your kids an enormous amount of responsibility.

Oh, and if you decide to either get another dog for yourselves, or if you decide to foster again, or BOTH- use that vet for your spay/neuter and vaccine services. He had damn better give you a healthy discount since you gave him a best friend for life!

GOOD LUCK- Thanks for saving a life and don't give up now!

You made an agreement with him so you need to honor it and it is his puppy now. However you should have talked with your kids and husband before you made the final decision. I would suggest taking your kids to another shelter and picking out a dog, not a puppy this time, that way less training and you wont feel so overwhelmed. but you must understand that you can't keep giving them up when something doesn't go your way.

Go and rescue another puppy/dog who's life depends on it. Perhaps one a little older, for then it's not so overwhelming!

You cannot expect the veterinarian to give back the puppy, and you shouldn't ask that of her either. That puppy will live a great life, and will never have to worry about not getting proper medical care.

You gave the puppy away for a reason - you were overwhelmed.

You don't say that YOU want the puppy back, just that you're getting pressure from hubby and kids. Hubby and kids probably didn't have to do much of the actual work, they just got to enjoy the puppy.

If you got the puppy back (or got another one) the situation would likely be the same.

Stick to your guns. The puppy has a good home now.

Leave the puppy with his new owner. If you can just pass him off like an old shoe once, you could do it again. The new owner is under no obligation to give him back and she is obviously the best person for the pup. You made your bed now lie on it! In future think twice before taking on any animal, you are obviously not mature enough to own one, adult or not! You don't play around with the emotions of ANY animal!!

Im sorry, I understand what your going through. Try to talk to the Vet and tell her how your kids feel. If that doesnt work try rescuing another dog, maybe a bit older this time? Puppies are hard work at times, and older dogs are much easier.

Hmmm... That is a tough situation to be in. Well, you know the vet will probably take very good care of the dog and have a good home. Your family should be happy for the dog. Why not rescue another dog for your family? That way you are helping two dogs out and will hopefully make your family happy again?
