Student loan consolidation should only be considered when you are completely finished with school, generally, you can only consolidate once. Plus the addition of origination fees won't help you pay the balance any faster.

If you plan to only obtain an associate degree, you may not be eligible for a consolidation, unless you owe $7,500 or more in student loans.

Plus, paying back over a longer period of time adds additional interest to the balance.

Yes they can. Check with the various lenders. There will be different limitations and restrictions. You can consolidate more that once, if you have additional loans to consolidate with the original consolidated loans.
