My Shih Tzu is 7 and he sometimes can be very hyper and yappy. If we neuter him now, how will he be affected?

I'm not sure neutering will necessarily calm him down., but it can help in other ways. He will not have the urge to wander off and breed to female in heat, he will not lift his leg in your house, neutering can possibly curve agression towards other male dogs and neutering is healthier for your dog. It's never too late to spay or neuter your pets.

It probably won't help with the hyperness but it is always healthier to have the dog neutered. It will also help make sure he doesn't wander away to find a female.

Probably won't help hyper and yappy but will help with any attempts to wander off or run away. It will also prevent a whole host of reproductive diseases.

Chances are it won't change his personality by much but there won't be unwanted puppies or a chance that he disappears. I vote neuter.

probably not, by this time the habit is an ingrained pattern, male dogs should be neutered by one year.

Yes it does make them calm down. Usually it will make them gain weight too.

You would be achieving birth control, nothing more. Sorry.
