I was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign, but when he gave me the ticket he said, you stopped but you didn't stop long enough. I mean, WTF? $85 later, I'm still pissed.

The question is, will you go into the HOV lane again?
Bottom line, while expensive, you broke the law, got caught and paid the price. Judging by the way people drive lately, I think more people need to be issued tickets. People seem to think that because they are in a "hurry" that gives them the right to do whatever it is they want.
I notice more and more lately people following the "To Hell with everybody" rule, which states you can do whatever you need to do while driving, irregardless of the law or other people, just so long as you get where you need to go.
While it may have been your first time getting pulled over, a highly doubt it was the first time you broke the maw and was probably not the first time you where in the HOV lane illegally.
When someone gets a ticket, they have usually done the offense many, many times before. It was just your first time getting caught!
Oh and I have been driving for twenty years and have never had a ticket or accident. Why? Because I obey the speed limit, signal, stay off the phone and keep my car in good repair. I drive with respect and realize I am not the only person on the road. If I miss an exit, I don't back up on the expressway. I go around. My fault, not everyone elses.

June of 2001, I was one of 4 passengers, and the cop pulled the driver over for bad brake-lights, running a stop-sign, and potential DUI.
She actually talked her way out of arrest AND a ticket!! She promised not to drive any more that night... I took a cab home, and she drove away 30 minutes later. She was stopped AGAIN by a female officer and did 180 days for her 2nd DUI.
Now I ONLY take a cab on pub nights !!

6 years ago, in a unmarked school zone....I was pulled over for going over 25 while there were children walking out from a liquor store in the middle of a block, because next to it was a gas station...mind you this was a rural area. And the cop on his motorcycle said hey pull over so I pulled over and he wrote me up for speeding in a school zone...And I said what school zone, and he said did you see kids walking I said they came out of the liquor store, so yes, he said and they were walking to school...I took pictures and everything when I went back to the scene and took it to court...and it was such an iffy ticket it could have gone both ways, because they did walk out of the store...and it is a dirt road and is unmarked school zone...that they made me pay for the ticket and traffic school, so it would not be on my records of course 425.00 ouch. I never drove that way again to say the least!! It is still a trap and not one thing has changed...

About three years ago, tail light not working. I think it was just an excuse to pull me over and do the "You don't have any guns or drugs in your car" thing, the cop was actually a bit upset he didn't find anything, he was a real dick, if I may say so.
$75 fine, no problem.

I received a speeding ticket in July. I used one of the ticket lawyers that are all over Florida. I got away with just court costs, no fine or points.

I got pulled over for "running a red light" turning right.
All of the red lights in my town have yield signs when turning right, so how i was pulled over for running a red light is a mystery to me. My ticket is $166 and hopefully will be thrown out when i go to court!!

speed trap, 75 in 55, ticketed for 60 in a 55, paid 60 bucks for traffic court, no points. what worked was being very cooperative and apologetic (friend of mine got busted in same trap and got ticketed for 72 in a 55 and a broken taillight, he was being mouthy. he paid way more than me)
