Hello,

(ANS) No.1 If you still have your original documents which were created within MS Works i.e.copies or backup's then one option would be to reinstall the entire works suite from any original disk you have? Then you would be able to open the original files.

**The works files you created will only open cleanly with the original version of the program. MS works is a Microsoft propitiatory format. Other programs like MS office may be able to import works files but I wouldn't like to say how good the formatting might be?

**No.2 restore MS Works from any backup copies you may have created in case of a disaster.

**No.3 if you don't have the original disk for works, try to find a copy of the same version of the program from a friend or work colleague, etc.

**No.4 Failing all that & if totally desperate you could buy a new copy of works (its NOT as costly as you may think, its cheaper than MS Office).

**No.5 does your works IT dept have a copy of works they could help you out with? if thats an option??

If you have windows XP you can go back to a restore point on your computer. Simply click .
Pick a go back date. Your documents and other saved files will not be lost or changed.

Your best alternative is to forget about Micro$oft Works. It is a cheap, old and low budget substitute for those who cannot afford Microsoft Office or The Wordperfect Suite. Let me recommend the free OpenOffice.org 2 . This program replaces Micro$oft Office and will do everything Works ever did for you befor. It will read and produce documents in various formats including, power point, pdf, excell, WP, Lotus, access, HTML Data Base, and more. This Open Source program is supported by thousand of programmers and is available free

There isn't much chance of getting the suite of programs back but you might be able to recover the data files that contain your work using Recuva.

The problem is that if it was uninstalled using the correct uninstaller then it will have removed all the entries from Windows registry, so even if you could recover all the files it still would not work because of the missing registry entries.

MS Works should have come with your PC and can be reinstalled with the CD's that came with your computer.

If you do not have these discs then you might want to try an online office suite that works inside your browser.

Try restoring Windows to a previous date before Works was removed from your PC (you might loose other changes also)

Google (they are not the only supplier) offer a free version

If that does not work then you will either have to buy a copy of Works or wait till Microsoft release the free, ad-supported version.

First, take a look in Add/Remove in the Control Panel to be sure it has been removed. Be careful here - stick to the scroll bar so you don't accidentally delete something.

If Works has in fact disappeared, you can download a freeware, Open Office. It is compatible with Microsoft's Office suite and can be converted free at

If you have the install disks the reinstall it. If not then maybe you need to download Open Office.
That will be able to use all the files that Works used.
