I felt like I was dead the other morning but I was just sleeping. I couldn't move but I was still alive inside. It was kind of sad & eye opening for me.

Well, I've had this weird sensation aboutmy body not wanting to move.
Actually, if it's the same thing, it's about the way the brain "paralyzes" our bodies so that our dreams don't make us move and get hurt.
People who sleepwalk or even just regularly fall out of bed have brains that do not regulate this as well as most of us have.
So, your body feels kind of frozen, and though you COULD wake your body up to move around, that part of your brain just doesn't want to yet, that's all.
When you know it's just the fact taht your brain is not coordinating being awake with letting he body move, it's really no so freaky anymore.
Sorry if that ruins it for you; some people like odd feelings.

I like to think of death as the ultimate pain so severe that you can't escape it so you accept it and become slowly increasingly numb until you eventually lose all feeling and are gone

I know that when you come close to drowning it is a similar feeling based on self experience

Also it feels kind of this way when you try to hang yourself (also based on self experience)

As for your account of feeling dead you where in state of sleep paralysis like some of the others have mentioned maybe the feeling you described could also be what comatose people are feeling... hmmm

:) best of luck finding your answer

in death there IS NO FEELING. the process of dieing is different for everyone, but in death, the awareness leaves and there is no sensation whatever, for instance the other morning you would not have even been aware that you could not move. All you experienced was a common phenomena known as sleep paralysis.

This question concerns me because many who speak of death and what it's like and such are having suicidal thoughts, but that part there that doesn't want to die has the questions of what it's like, no matter if it's out of fear, curiosity, etc.

Please, if I happen to be correct on this - seek help! I just 3 weeks ago lost my 17 year old nephew to suicide. This should have never happened! I'm in my happy place called denial, but once it comes crashing down - I don't know how I am going to deal with this.....

Don't fear death, either you feel nothing so you can't feel sad about it or there is heaven so you'll be there and everything is cool:D If your gona fear death you fear the inevitable and if you want to stop fearing it actually think about it and you will realise you dont need fear. And anyway there is pascals theory on the chances of heaven to giv eyou some support :P

I think death feels the same as waking up in the morning and wondering where you were all those hours you were asleep.
You were not aware of anything while you were sleeping.
You are not aware of anything when you are dead.
There is no feeling (awareness) at all.
I think as we die we feel in the beginning of the process and lose feeling as it progresses.

Perhaps the death is simply an end to all feeling and does not feel like anything per se.
