If you have windows Vista fresh out of the box then all your programs will be original. Do not worry about xp any longer, once you get used to Vista you will be glad it is installed.
But if someone should sell you any fake Microsoft software it will detect it immediately.
I bought an original Microsoft Office word 2007 less than half price on eBay and that works brilliantly, (once you get used to it, which doesn't take long, also Microsoft have lots of on line video demos).
Now you have Windows Vista You may find pop up blockers are always showing, but do not worry about it.
When I bought my new computer with Windows Vista it had 30 days free Norton that is the best protection I think you can get. Sometimes it is offered free for 30 days on the web.
Best thing to do is get a friend - 'expert' to help you, if there is something your not sure of.
But don't let anyone put any copies of Microsoft products on your computer unless they are original - preferably come in their new box.
Also if using Norton anti virus protection it likes original Norton

You could carry out a fresh installation from your XP Disc. However and this is most important, the drivers may not be available to run your PC on XP.

If Vista was "bundled" with your computer, you own it. If you want XP, you will have to uninstall Vista and buy and install XP.
May I suggest you first change Vista to "classic view." This will make it resemble Vista and help you familiarize yourself with it.

Call it stubborn, but Vista came with my laptop and I am determined to use it. I have XP on my desktop. In addition to the above, I bought a couple used books at www.amazon.com. Excellent prices and all books in excellent condition.
