The worst wedding I went to was an expensive one (44k when it was all said and done).
Everything was beautiful, the flowers, the venue...BUT the atmosphere was so tense. The family of the bride and the family of the groom have not spoken to each other in years. They avoided each other the whole weekend. The wedding party gave a speech each, there were 8 BM!!! and 8 GM!! Everyone was tired from working non-stop at the wedding delivering flowers, liquor, candles etc. so when the wedding day finally arrived, everyone looked tired and ready to go home and sleep. The rehearsal dinner was canceled because of problems in between the families. The mother of the groom invited her "favorites" to a private rehearsal dinner that didn;t include the brides family, which accounted for 80% of the wedding party. For them, she got pizza and for the rest of us we dined on a fine italian restauramt with his family.
It was a beautiful wedding, but very tense whcih make everything so awkward.
Good luck

The best wedding I went to was my friend's, the reception in a firehouse party hall upstairs. It was great, casual and fun.
The worst? It wasn't bad, in a country club. But it was depressing, because the timing of the wedding had been sped up because the mother of the bride was dying and they had to hurry. She was at the church in a wheelchair but couldn't manage to attend the reception. She died the next week and the couple had to come home early from their honeymoon. This illness was a big topic at the reception, which cast a pall on the festivities. I may sound insensitive, but we were friends of the groom, and we did not even know about this, until the day of. The marriage broke up a few years later.
The odd thing about this wedding was, in the church during the ceremony, it all felt kind of hollow. Maybe because it was a grey November drizzly day in upstate PA, but something felt off about the whole thing. Everything was there, the bridal party, the church, flowers, music, readings, many speeches, but it all just felt like something was missing.

The best wedding has to be one of my cousin's and his wife a few years back. It lasted a good thirty minutes, the bride looked beautiful, my cousin looked so handsome and nervous in his tux, they had wonderful music and singing, and they had their bridesmaids and groomsmen lined up in windowed pairs behind them in the choir loft so that made it more interesting.
The worst would have to be a friend of mine's wedding. I was working with her at the time and the poor girl literally had to go on medication because she was stressing so hardcore about everything. She was 21 at the time and we had to pull three gray hairs from her head! When the big day finally came, I got to the church at 2:53, the ceremony started on time at 3:00, and ended at 3:05. There were no decorations in the church and the only music was the wedding march. The reception was held in the rather small fellowship hall of the church but, with over 150 guests in the middle of June in Georgia, people were literally going outside to cool off. I say this was the worst because I was expecting a fabulous ceremony/reception the way she was stressing and I just wanted to slap her for worrying so much about a 5-minute-wedding.

I think the best wedding I went to was very fun and relaxed and everyone was just themselves.
The worst wedding I went to was very disorganized. It seemed that no one was having fun and no one knew what was going on.

best - a family friend whose son I grew up with. her husband had passed away when my friend was young and it was such a happy day when she married a wonderful man.
worst - a relative's wedding where the food sucked, the coffee was so lousy everyone who even tasted it ended up in the bathroom, the "hot" tea was served cold, and the DJ played crappy music.
