Because the catholic church thinks it knows more than God about what we should do.

We do not confess TO the priest we confess to God. The priest is the sacramental person of Christ.

When you get married or baptizd...why have a priest or pastor? Because he is the sacramental person of Christ. He confers the grace and the sacrament.

You could say...why go to a priest to get married? I can get married in front of God myself with my intended. Why not baptize yourself? Can't you just go in the bathroom and run water on your head and baptize yourself...just you and God?

Obviously, confession is the same thing. The priest has the authority...given him by Christ...to loose and bind sins. Whatever sins you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven and whatever sins you bind on earth witll be bound in heaven. Since a priest has been given this authority to loose and bind sins, he must "hear" those sins to know what to loose and bind right? How can he responsibly fulfill this command of Christ if he hasn't "heard" the sins. So, obvisouly confession is necessary.

Additionally, confession is biblical...in the Old and New Testaments. In the OT we find that the Jews were requried to confess and atone for their sins at least once a year. They travelled many days to go to the temple. There they said their sins outloud to the priest, then they sacrificed an animal and burned it's flesh with the help of the priest.

Understanding this old tradition of the Jewish faith helps us to understand what Christ meant when he gave his Apostles this authority. They were all Jewish and knew of the neccessity of confession and sacrifice. They understood that Jesus was instituting a new way, he was making them priests and giving them the authority and he was the sacrifice.

As Jesus said, I did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.

Is the Catholic who confesses his sins to a priest any better off than the non-Catholic who confesses directly to God? Yes. First, he seeks forgiveness the way Christ intended. Second, by confessing to a priest, the Catholic learns a lesson in humility, which is avoided when one confesses only through private prayer. Third, the Catholic receives sacramental graces the non-Catholic doesn’t get; through the sacrament of penance sins are forgiven and graces are obtained. Fourth, the Catholic is assured that his sins are forgiven; he does not have to rely on a subjective "feeling." Lastly, the Catholic can also obtain sound advice on avoiding sin in the future.

During his lifetime Christ sent out his followers to do his work. Just before he left this world, he gave the apostles special authority, commissioning them to make God’s forgiveness present to all people, and the whole Christian world accepted this, until just a few centuries ago. If there is an "invention" here, it is not the sacrament of penance, but the notion that the sacramental forgiveness of sins is not to be found in the Bible or in early Christian history

Yours is a misunderstanding of Catholic Sacrament of confession. The priest acts 'in persona Christi" so when one goes to a priest His confession is to God and the forgiveness comes from God for it is only God who knows one's heart. As for the priests authority and veracity, the Bible says that the authority is given to the priest and the veracity of the Sacrament is founded on the veracity of Christ and not the imperfections of man. This is easily researched in Catholic teaching, so do not take my word for this or anyone else, find out for yourself.

In Christ

Priests you can see, touch and talk to. They have spent years of being educated to help people relate to God.

God is not so easy to see, even harder to touch and there is no way to know if he hears us or not. If you are sure that God hears you then you should perhaps write a book and share this amazing revelation with the world. There are billions of people who would like to know for sure that God exists.

The Bible says that all believers are priests.

The catholic cult has men in positions receiving worship.

Catholics are not saved and are not Christians. Catholics believe a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell.

Bible teachers that said the Vatican and the catholic cult are an antichrist:

John Bunyan, John Huss, John Wycliffe, John Calvin, William Tyndale, John Knox, Thomas Bacon, John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, Samuel Cooper, John Cotton, and Jonathan Edwards

Jesus became our mediator. You should pray to God the Father through his Son, Jesus Christ. Anyone that tells you other wise, is teaching false doctrine. You can read in the Bible what happens to them.
