Start simple. Use small plates for meals like salad plates.
Stop starches, breads, pasta, rice, potatoes, butter. Plenty of veggies and fruits. Reducing portions will work well. No sodas or sweets. Use Splenda for sugar and if you make a simple dessert. Use sugar free jello and pudding and cool whip. As you reduce your portions your stomach will shrink.

Have a small low fat breakfast, fruit, mid morning, small lunch,
mid afternoon snack, light dinner and by 8 a light snack.

Walk a specific distance every night. Drive a loop that is a mile . Then walk it every day for a week and the twice a day from then on. On the third week start to add more distance or add a short bike ride. Your knees will get stronger.

You will build up energy. Your body was not meant to carry around so much extra weight. If you lose it now while you are still young you should avoid damaging your joints. The pain comes much later in life.

God bless and good luck.

right down every single food you eat and it's calorie contents, you should eat about 1600 calories a day, so keep track and you will lose weight, after about a month, bring it down to 1400 calories, and about the bike, it's fine that you get tired after only a few minutes, your body isn't used to it quite yet, so do some in the morning, and some at night, once you get it up to doing about 20 minutes, you don't have to do it twice a day if you don't want to, as long as you do it at night, doing it in front of the TV is really great and makes the time go by fast, and if you watch something that makes you happy or determined, that's the best thing to watch, or listen to music, also, STOP EATING 3 HOURS BEFORE GOING TO BED, you will lose weight this way, my cut off is 7:00, (sumo resellers gain their weight by eating dinner then going to bed) it also wouldn;t hurt to but a pedometer to count how many steps your taking in a day, to maintain your weight you're supposed to get ten thousand steps, so it would hurt to go out for a brisk walk every now and then, diets are hard, so don't give up when things get tough, if being in shape were easy, every one would be in shape, so good luck, and stay motivated!

Try doing the elliptical in 10 minute increments 3 times a day... studies show that it is just as good to split up your workout as it is to do it all at once. I know EXACLTY where your coming from, I have an at-home elliptical, and an hour practically kills me.

As far as actual diet and exercise, here is what you need to focus on:
First you need to cut back your calories - aim for 1200 to 1500 calories per day... DO NOT go below 1200 calories, your body will go into starvation mode and you wont lose any weight.

Then you need to develop an exercise routine that includes BOTH cardio and strength training. For cardio you should aim for at LEAST 30 mintues 3 times per week.
For Strength you should try 3 days per week also, and alternate between Upper body (arms), Lower body (legs) and core (abs/back) strength training. You can do all three each time you do strength training, or focus on ONE group each day.
But remember you should always have a day of rest in between strength training, and YES you can do strength training the same days you do cardio, in fact you should do strength first, and then your cardio so you get the maximum calorie burn from your workout!

Also Sparkpeople(.com) is a great website with TONS of weightloss tips and a community of people trying to lose weight just like you (i'm on there) and best of all its absolutely FREE!!

Good luck

I'd say keep pushing yourself on the Eliptacal, and watch your portion sizes. Better to take less and go back for 2nd's (if you're still hungry) than piling food on a plate and feeling obligated to finish it. Watch the snacking! A ceasar salad can have as much fat (if not more) than a cheeseburger ... be careful. NO FAST FOOD!!! Be positive. You're worth it and you'll not only feel better about yourself, but you'll also be healthier. You can do it.

The way not to do it is starve yourself, to start with. Just exercise and eat right. I did....lost 90 LBS because of it. Starving yourself won't help at all. Drink more water, eat less before bed, and don't eat for stress are the 3 things I follow and i'm going pretty well if i don't say myself. 90 LBS isn't anything like 5-10lbs so take my advice. If you want anymore details, feel free to email me. Just please be patient for ppl seem to email me for advice on this, I will reply, don't worry! ~Adia

Honestly - if you need someone to tell you the proper way to eat, then you need to see a dietitian. My sister-in-law is a dietitian and that's what she does for a living - counseling obese people on how to live a healthier lifestyle. She has helped many people loose weight and become healthier.

You sound exactly like me! try the low-carb diet but keep your veggies/fruits because those are healthy carbs. Its worked for me in the past but after a while its hard to stick to. Just try and exercise as much as ya can motivate yourself for. I am trying to lose weight for my wedding in march and so far I am horrible.... so good luck to you!
