If I knew who the person was, or if they were still within visual/shouting reach, then I would alert them. (As I did a few weeks ago for the woman who left her ATM card in the machine.)
If the person was already long gone, I might be tempted to take the money - but if it were more than $50 the Girl Scout in me would probably be compelled to bring the money into the bank so they could check the ATM records and return the money to the person's account.

I'd chase them down because:
1. It's the right thing to do
2. I'm a chicken and too scared to steal stuff (especially on camera)
3. If I left my money in the ATM, I'd want someone to give it back to me

Two years ago i was behind an older woman at an ATM. She took her money and walked away, chatting with a kid she was with. She had left her card in the machine. When i walked up the screen said, "Would you like another transaction?" She had left her PIN number in the machine as well!! I pressed NO and took her card over to her car. I explained to her how dangerous her action was and that she should be more careful in the future. She was, naturally, extremely grateful.

I am in the same belief...I would grab the money, run out the door and hopefully catch them.
If they already were gone, I would call the police department and let them know I had this money and leave a good number to call me if anyone claimed it lost or stolen.
I would also call the bank that handles that ATM and see if they could link the transaction to the customer and hook up with them that way.
After 3 months, I would consider the money mine if no one claimed it.

Absolutely grab the money and chase after them. Decent thing to do.
I used an ATM recently and the thing spit out some money, for some reason I stood there and counted it (usually just pop it into the wallet), $40 was stuck in the thing that spits it out, I had to pull like crazy to retrieve my money.
I would have felt sick if it had remained in there without me knowing.

I would make a valiant attempt to give it back. If I couldn't, if it was a bank ATM, I would take it in and give it to the bank and tell them it was just left by, and try to give a description of the person and time it occurred.

I've been there....
That really is a hard trial. It was so tempting to just keep it.
I try to put myself in the other person's shoes. What if it was me that left the money or card?
I contacted the person and gave it back

I wouldn't take it. After so many seconds the ATM would take the money back and the card.
You take it, your on video taking it. What if you can't chase them down? Now you've stolen money in the eyes of the bank.

Start yelling at them, if it's a walk up ATM or if your in the drive thru ATM, take the money inside and tell them what happened.
