In Matthew 3, John the Baptist seems so sure about Christ. What made him act otherwise in Matthew 11. ("Art thou he who is to come or shall we look for another?")

I think the Scriptures prove that St. John the Baptist recognized that Jesus was, at least, a prophet of God when he baptized Him. We must remember that Jesus was one of his kinsmen and that they knew each other from that relationship but also some believe that they were both also from the Qumran community and were of the Essene sect of Judaism.

I think that St. John the Baptist was just seeking assurance that his role in the salvation of mankind was complete and that salvation was at hand.

John the Baptist was human.

He had been in prison for about two years at this point.....while Jesus was walking the earth, performing miracles....

If you had seen Jesus with your own eyes, knew that He was near, preaching and doing miracles, and yet you were languishing in prison for TWO YEARS......are you saying you wouldn't have wondered if you were right?

I think the fact that the Bible DOES show people like John to be humans with faults and doubts only strengthens the truth of the Word.

John was in prison and Jesus wasn't getting him out and John got confused just like we do. Constantly we are hearing if God is so powerful why doesn't He do this and do this. God has clearly told us that His ways are higher than our ways.

He can see the end from the beginning and nothing bothers God. Jesus knows heaven is better than earth. We may get confused about death but Jesus says it is temporary - absent from the body present with the Lord.

It always helps to read another version of the Bible instead of the KJV. John was in prison at the time and he had heard what Jesus was doing. John sent out his disciples to find out if Jesus was coming to see him or not. That is the whole "jist" of that verse. You must always read the verse before and the verses after to understand what is going on. I hope this has helped. Blessings.

If you had been thrown in prison, I think that you might question your beliefs too!

All the "apostles" eventually left the myth of Jesus because they discovered he was actually Augustus Caesar.
